Vander Ploeg - Pella

We love Vander Ploeg! It’s bakery “next door” neighbor Jaarsma might be more popular and have a larger offering but we prefer VP for the items we love most. We drive 50 miles just to get their sugar cookies. ? My husband is an aficionado of sugar cookies and he says they’re the absolute best. We often call our order in ahead of time and they always have it boxed and ready for pickup!There’s usually not a big line (like there always is at Jaarsma) and the gals are so nice there. I love their specialty donuts too. Always a treat when we make time to stop by there!

Very cute place! So many choices! I opted for the Danish letters and it didn’t disappoint. Yum!

MOST of the pastries and bread are good. We have never had a cream horn with marshmallow cream. It was overly sweet. My husband asked why marshmallow cream. The young lady behind the counter said, That is how we make it. She seemed a bit annoyed and looked at the other worker with an eye roll. The store is clean and organized.

Holy moly can these gals pat-a-cake. They can bake a cake faster than any one. No joke, they were all baked when I got there. Actually I didn’t see any cakes in this bakery but I did see a smorgasbord of other tasty treats. If you need some sugar like Def Leppard does then this is your stop. Amazing selection of treats…a pastry parlor if you will, a donut dining experience, a strudel extravaganza!! Okay, you get the point. If you have a sweet tooth come see Vander Ploeg.

We saw a TV segment on either Food Network or The Cooking Channel about the bakery and their Dutch Letter pastries. We decided to order the Dutch Letters online and so happy we did, they're absolutely delicious! We highly recommend trying Dutch Letters for yourself. We will be re-ordering again soon.
