Beautiful night to have dinner on patio. Great service and food. The perch was cooked perfect and good portion for the dollar. A pound of perch and ceasar salad was perfect for two people View all feedback.
What Lazaro Stamm doesn't like about Anchor and Wheel:
We had the fish and steak. The steak had a bit of a funny taste but the fish was ok. Service was good but the place is expensive and the lettuce in the salad was going brown. Unlikely to eat here again. View all feedback.
This restaurant is wonderful with delicious food, a fantastic ambiance, and charming decor.
I have dined here a few times over the last five years. It is the most interesting, and perhaps the closest to fine dining on Pelee Island. The decor is eccentric and casual, which is good. Like Pelee Island, it feels a little bit Canadian and a little bit American - a nice mix. The Long Island ice teas are greats - have at least one but don't drive after. The Lake Erie fish fry (i.e., perch, pickerel), are tasty and very local. The prices are OK - maybe a little high but for the volume of traffic given the nature of the island, probably necessary to make things work. Try it. You likely will like it.
The fish was amazing! So FRESH and cooked to perfection, plenty of side dishes and was way too much food for one person to consume. I tried to eat is all, but didn't quite finish. Don't let the price deter you as you get so much more than what you pay for! Thanks for one of the best pickerel dinners I have ever eaten! The staff was courteous and polite...offering suggestions as to what their favorites were. My friend had blackened perch and she said the same thing...DELISH!
The food comes in generous portions (I couldn't finish) and is worth the cost. Most meals start with a salad bar and the meat comes with lots of sides. Dessert was offered but I had no room left. This is definitely a place I will go back to!
My friends and I were on the island for race weekend and wanted some fresh fish before we left. The hours are short, 5:30 - 8 pm, even on a weekend full of tourists. The prices are very high, my meal was $41 for a margarita, 4 pieces of perch, and fries. I asked for water, which was never delivered, for which I'm glad, since it comes in a bottle and you're charged $1.50. The fish was ok, nothing specatcular, and came with fries, coleslaw (in a plastic cup), and tarter sauce. The fries aren't fresh cut, they're frozen. The margarita was good, but $11 was rather steep. The salad bar is uninspiring. They offer virgin daiqiris, but you can't get one with rum, not sure why. The menu isn't large and all prices are high for what you get. If you want to split an order, there's a charge of $6.95 on top of the food. There are no substitutions for any of the items on the menu. Our server was friendly and the food was delivered quickly. A woman we think was the owner came over to talk to us, we were the only people in the restaurant. One short visit is acceptable, but she came by twice, and talked longer than necessary. All that's needed is a welcome, what brings you here, and where are you from. While we were there someone from one of their cottages or Inn came in and there was a dispute about an extra person in the room (accommodations on race weekend are difficult to find) and being late to check in. The last ferry to the the island on the Friday was delayed, as this is the only way onto the island, not the guy's fault. We were very uncomfortable sitting there listening to the exchange. I would definitely not go back to this restaurant if I'm ever back on the island. There aren't a lot of options, but try one of the other ones.
