I was here in 2023. The food, atmosphere, view, everything was wonderful. I highly recommend.
There are 2 rooms to this restaurant and one has a view of the kitchen and espresso machine. We were given a table in the corner with this unfortunate outlook; completely destroys the experience. The spider crab filled hake was unremarkable and lacking in flavour that was not improved with salt and pepper. The service was patchy; one waitress delightful and helpful and the other bellowed in Spanish.
We wanted to eat there. Most of the tables were still not taken. The waiter was very impolite and sent us away. They hate tourists here. No wonder this place looks like the Middle Ages. I don’t recommend coming here at all!!
The staff here are exceptional, almost michelin star standard and make up for the food being a little ordinary. The seafood and fish was very fresh and we enjoyed the whole meal. They cannot do enough for you and some of the friendliest and most hardworking people ive seen. We enjoyed this experience so so much and will come again. Thank you
Went here with some Basque friends who've lived in the greater area their whole lives so my expectations were high and the food did not disappoint. One way to arrive is by small boat across the harbour. If you are afraid of boats don't worry its just like a 1-2 minute crossing of the well sheltered harbour. So its a charming start to the adventure. The restaurant is practically next to the boat crossing. The location is a typical Basque fishing town that has probably seen better days but now exploits its charm and location for tourism. Having said that its very much a lived in town with lots of locals. There were all sorts of local children diving and swimming in the harbour entrance having great fun. The place was packed given it was a Saturday late lunch. The service was friendly in that harried, busy, informal typically Spanish way. Don't expect some stuffy maitre D. As a seafood lover that's had lots of it I must say the food was amazing! We had several appetizers which were all delivered separately which is not ideal but not bad either as we got to savour each one separately. The cooking point of each was perfect. But what really stole the show for me was the main entree which for me was a Bacalau Pil-pil (cod). Being of Portuguese heritage I know my bacalau and this was amazingly tender and moist. My wife shared a fish with here friend and it was also so fresh. Would go here again in a second.
