After visiting the Auckland Museum in the Parnell district, we discovered a delightful little sushi bar. I ordered a combo plate that included sashimi and tempura. View all feedback.
I've visited Moto Sushi in Parnell about six times, and each time I've ordered sushi. I haven't tried anything else on their menu, so I can't speak to those options, but their sushi is the best I've had in Auckland. I can't quite put my finger on what makes it so special, but when I'm in the mood for sushi, this is the only place I consider.
The restaurant itself is a bit small but has a charming and traditional atmosphere. Many of the meals come with miso soup as well. Our total bill was around $180 for four of us, which felt confusing since we hadn't ordered that much. We had spring rolls, veggie tempura, the medium sashimi platter, chicken sushi, tuna sushi, the chicken salad, and a few drinks, making the total seem a bit excessive. At first, we thought we had been overcharged, but after counting everything, it turned out to be correct. Still, I felt the prices were a bit high for a small Japanese restaurant. Despite that, I would like to return to try the salad again, as it was quite enjoyable.
I have been visiting Moto for many years, as I am a local. Moto is a cozy little place situated in the cellar level of its building.
Moto Sushi Bar is absolutely fantastic! I visited for the first time with my now ex-boyfriend, drawn in by all the buzz and Instagram posts about the place. I ordered the chicken salad, and it was honestly the best I’ve ever had—full of flavor with a delicious dressing. I highly recommend it! He tried the chicken katsu donburi and loved it too; it was fresh and flavorful. I can’t wait to return—this place is incredible! If you're in Parnell, you definitely need to try it. A perfect 10/10! I can't rave about it enough!
Moto is a small Japanese restaurant located on Parnell Road, slightly below street level, accessible by descending stairs on either side of the entrance.
