I am not particularly familiar with Spanish cuisine, so I will flag my ignorance up front. Villa77 is located in a remodelled house and has a charming front aspect with covered tables on the lawn and a nicely decorated interior. Their setup allows for big groups as well as intimate dining. The menu consists mainly of tapas items and four types of paellas as the mains. We asked our friendly waitress from Barcelona for her recommendations for tapas, and her recommendations were the Chorizo, Croquettes and Pan Tumaca con Jamon (garlic tomato toast and ham), and in addition to that we ordered a seafood paella. The chorizo was as expected and served hot and sizzling and the pan tumaca con jamon was quite nice with a strong garlic flavour complementing the saltiness of the ham. I would rate these dishes 3.5. The croquettes which were supposed to be mushroom and onion croquettes were well fried but were bland and were rescued by combining them with the chorizo. I... read more

I've given Villa 77 five stars, NOT for the food - any I've had has been ordinary at best - and not for the decor, which is deeply confused. It gets five stars for the flamenco. Go on the first Friday of the month, buy a glass of wine, tune out the diners digging in to their steaming plates of curiously risotto-like paella, and focus on what IS 100% authentic: the guitarist, the singing and the dancers. As unlikely as it may seem, this funny little place on Unley Road plays host to some breathtaking flamenco. Go when they have fiesta and it's open floor, and you might even be tempted on to the dance floor yourself...

This was my second visit to this hidden gem, and I initially thought my first experience was just a fluke. I can honestly say it’s the best Spanish restaurant I’ve dined at in Australia. The paella is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend it if you're looking for an excellent Spanish experience in Adelaide. Don't forget to try the blue margarita!
