my friend and I enjoyed an ingenious lunch in this caffe in the museum. the salmon with a surgeon-tart and seasonal vegetables was incredible. our waitress was divine and recommended the lemon tart from a very long list of desserts. it really hit the spot when they look for great food in a stylish but relaxed environment, this caffe is for them! I strongly recommend you to have a glass of wine/champagne and some snacks. Then you will feel safe. Otherwise, stay away from all drinks containing ice cube. I ordered an artisanal limonade. I had the wrong idea to look at the waitress behind the bar...when she was pouring my glass with ice cubes using ... HER HAND DIRECTLY!!! I am sorry but I have never seen a waitress taking directly the ice cubes with her fingers then put them in the glass of a customer. I am sorry but I came to Musée Maillol to enjoy the Giacometti exhibition and not all the bacteria on the hand of the waitress. I am shocked to see how a basic hygiene rule has been disregarded! Then, I was about to ask for another glass without ice cubes ... But I was so disgusted that I decided to drink my limonade from the bottle directly. Bad experience... One of the top terrible one I had, even maybe the MOST terrible.
Simple, good food, comfortable seating, excellent service in a magnificent vaulted cellar. Well worth a visit if you're visiting the museum.
After visiting the museum stopped. beautiful atmosphere with very friendly staff. the food looks good even though we only stopped for coffee and cake! That was good.
At the beginning of the 50ties, a famous cabaret was opened there by the brother of the poet Jacques Prévert. Marilyn Monroe was there with Montand, Boris Vian too, and a lot of later well-known singers, like Barbara, made their first move in this place....In the basement of the Musee Maillol now, this fantastic ancient cellar was totaly renovated in a quite cosy style. We took there a lunch, with a delicious home made vegetable quiche, a green salad and a glass of good Rosé from Provence. For dessert, we couldn't resist choosing a piece of pistachio cake with strawberries inside. Very helpful and smiling service : don't forget the tip.
The salads at least Matisse and Gauguin are good but over elaborate, e.g. Grapefruit, Chicken, mango, spinach, mangetout, sesame. Would definitely come back probably to try a quiche, the cakes also looked delicious. Great selection of teas/infusions as well. Outstanding service. Just lovely...space for a quiet interlude.
