This is an authentic Alsace restaurant serving amazing dishes. We chose the fish which was expensive but well worth the money. The staff were very helpful and attentive. View all feedback.
What Robert Delmas doesn't like about Brasserie Bofinger:
We went to Bofinger because of a recommendation from the New York Times. They said the sole was great, and sole is one of my favorite dishes. What a let down. The sole was served on on ice-cold plate and the fish was not even...luke warm. The onion soup was mostly bread. At these prices, we expected much more. Definitely a bad day for Bofinger. We should stick to the non-touristy restaurants like we usually do. View all feedback.
We visited on one occasion and had oysters and wine which was very nice. We returned and had a steak and hubby had house specialty pork dish and it was not what you would expect from a restaurant charging such high prices. We returned to Paris and someone recommended the sole which I ordered and I wasn't given an option of how I wanted it cooked and it came up swimming in a sea of butter which congealed on the plate. For 42€ (just for the sole) it was the worst meal I've had in France and we've been there for 6 months. I definitely won't be visiting again. The locals only have oysters & shellfish in there so they are relying on the tourists.
Yes, it's a lovely old French brasserie but really, the food leaves much to be desired. Alarm bells rang when the olives offered as nibbles were probably the most tasteless olives I've ever eaten. How can you get olives wrong? White wine was then brought to the table with apologies for it not being chilled as the fridge wasn't working. Things perked up with the starters, good oysters and a tasty, if overly chilled terrine, but my main course of sauerkraut was as quotidien as it sounds. Boiled cabbage and frankfurters sums it up. On top of all this, the service was efficient to the point of brusqueness. Please, don't whip away every glass and plate the moment it's finished with. And it's not by any means a cheap meal. If I were to return, I'd go there for a drink and a snack to enjoy the deco interiors but the food? Nah.
Open late. Very convenient. Good atmosphere. Superb interior design. And, how could i forget, EXCELLENT food.
