Good service, excellent food and a good ambiance. The only reason I haven't awarded 5 stars is that from our table we had a great view of the toilet - with people leaving the door open when leaving. So when you reserve, ask for a table "without view" to have the best experience. View all feedback.
What Christine Guillet doesn't like about César Saint Germain:
Restaurant Cesar St Germain is located in the Paris 6 in Rue Mazarine near metro station Odeon. The restaurant offers antipasto, pizzas and pasta, salads and deserts. Decoration in red pink and table decoration gives the restaurant a modern brasserie ambiance. Cuisine is OK...but far from exquisite. Staffs are efficient and service is adequate. We came on a Friday and around 19:30 the place became busy. The area is t... View all feedback.
I meant to go To Café Procope on this trip, since it is the oldest restaurant (though under different names) in Paris. It was host to American revolutionary figures like Franklin (who has a whole large room named after him). Jefferson, and Jean-Paul Jones. Likewise, it hosted Enlightenment figures such as Condorçet, d'Holbach, Rousseau, Diderot and more. During the French Revolution it served as one of the meeting places of the revolutionary societies, where Danton, Marat, Robespierre, Desmoulins and others gathered. Right across the street is the room where Marat set up his famous newspaper. Danton's statue is in the square outside of the restaurant. Napoleon also dined there, and his hat is on display. Upstairs you can see more of the history of the place, even in the bathrooms, which are marked with the revolutionary Citoyens et Citoyennes. It was for this reason that I gave the restaurant 5 stars, not for the food or the service. The food is good, especially the appetizer of avocados with langoustines and crab. The sole meunière was good, but not the best I have ever had.I did have a complaint about the service. While the maitre d' was wonderful (and ended up doing most of the work for me and most of the people around me), my waiter was one of the worst. He acted like he could care less that I was there, never asked how any of the food was, and didn't even pour from the half-bottle of wine (I had to do it myself except for once when the maitre d' did so). My five stars for this restaurant do not include my waiter, who did not even deserve 1 star.
This is an excellent restaurant that rises up to its history and reputation as oldest running restaurant in Paris. From the moment you enter this restaurant, you feel you went back in time. Decoration is beau-tiful. Stuff is professional and friendly. Food is delicious. Highly recommended.
