Having just arrived in Paris early evening, we couldn’t be bothered to explore the area looking for somewhere to eat so chose the nearest option to our hotel as the menu looked reasonable. We chose a chicken caesar salad and one with smoked salmon and prawns, accompanied with some excellent frites and large beers. The food was very good, service friendly and efficient and the atmosphere homely with seemingly local cu... View all feedback.
What harleyleon doesn't like about Cafe Cambronne:
Had a good experience until the waiter said the machine was down and could not print my check when everyone else was receiving their receipt. After explaining that I needed to split the check between my friends, he gave me a check that was 10 Euros less than what he charged my card and explained it was due to a 10 euro beer that was never ordered nor received. Do not recommend. View all feedback.
Prompt and kind service, good food. Decent prices for the area. Had a glass of wine and some escargot. I also had dessert (crepes of course). I enjoyed this place and would come back again!
Staying at a nearby hotel while visiting our daughters who both live in Paris (8th and 13th). First visit was in the evening and quite busy. Waiter was very friendly and attentive and the pizza we had to accompany the wine was exceptional! So enjoyable we decided to return for brunch a couple of days later. This time the service was poor the waiter didn't seem at all interested in us, was unfriendly and didn't get the order right (we only wanted two teas and two coffees). Hopefully it was an off day for them and we will definitely go back again. First visit 5*, second visit 1*.
We popped into here for a coffee and dessert. The place was very quiet which was surprising as other eateries around the area were all busy. Maybe therein lies a tale. One coffee, one green tea and one creme brûlée came out at a whopping 22 euros, way over the listed price. There was no bill offered, which I think is illegal, and the waiter cleverly distracted us with small talk while asking for the money. Ordinarily I would have complained to him but I was going down with some bug, hence the green tea, so just left for the comfort of our room. We were staying nearby and later double checked. I can confirm that the price charged was way over the posted price so please be aware or use nearby restaurants that are honest. We subsequently used nearby restaurants several times so it’s very short sighted to rip someone off for a relatively small gain.
If you are looking for traditional bistot fare, look no further: this place fits the bill in every respect. Go for the classics, like the entrecöte frites or the pavé de bœuf (my personal favorite) ,with a slice of terrine de campagne as a starter. This is one of the places I keep returning to when in Paris, as a French expat living in New Mexico, USA. The atmosphere is authentic, the métro a stone throw way and the area centrally located on the rive Gauche.
This is my local watering hole for many reasons. It 's proximity to my apartment is certainly convenient, but beyond that, the owner Roland is simply one of the nicest people I know. I enjoy all the food they serve, and the meat quality is top Label Rouge , Red label.
