Don Jose Mexican - Paragould

Directly on the main road US-49, passing through the city of Paragould. I visited a Sunday night at 6:00. The place was mostly empty, but for 2-3 tables that were occupied. Service was very friendly, attentive and prompt. Chips and salsa. Salsa was decent, would have been better if it had fresh cilantro in him. I ordered the Carne Asada plate that comes with rice, beans and tortillas. The meat was tender and well seasoned. The beans were creamy and it comes with a guacamole side salad with some Mexican cheese crushed over it. Overall, no bad choice for Mexican fare on a business trip.

We haven't eaten at this Don Jose's in a while. We were coming through Paragould around 6pm and decided to stop. This building has been multiple restaurants in the past. The front of the building, and the parking lot are poorly lit. The food was good and the waiter was very nice and quick.

8 pm Saturday night and I was the only customer when I arrived. thought they were closed or something else wrong. chips were well over cooked and had a burnt flavor, same as my shell in my taco salad. had a hard time cutting the shell (after it was soggy with sauce) with a knife. basically ripped it apart. not sure I will be a repeat customer.

65 minutes for one meal. Kept bringing out the wrong food to us. Then I get the ticket which literally had 3 extra $1.99 charges on it. I guess they just kept ringing up more till they got to what they felt like was a good price. Last visit. Ever.

I tried placing an order to go. I ordered my menu items just fine until the employee asked me a question I couldn't understand; he was speaking a little fast. After letting him know I couldn't understand the question, he repeated it. Upon letting him know I still couldn't understand him and that he may be speaking too fast, he hung up on me. The 1 star is for poor customer service.
