Feedback
We have come to this restaurant regularly since its beginning more than 40 years ago and always been super satisfied. The brothers Jaume (kitchen) and Josep (restaurant) always took very good care of us but this time our lunch experience was different. We were well received by the usual friendly head waiter of many years and shown our table in the covered terrace close to the pool – our preferred table there during summer. We immediately ordered two glasses of Cava and another waiter came to deliver. However that Cava came from a pre-opened bottle. It was flat. Luckily the head waiter observed this himself when he came to take our food order, he took our glasses back and the other waiter returned with new glasses and a fresh bottle of Cava. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED ! As starters we ordered two Carpaccio de Gambas with avocado as we have enjoyed at Sa Punta before. It was still very nice but the portions were considerable smaller than we remembered from earlier visits. As main coursed we ordered one Suquet and one Lam. The Suquet was luke warm and did not contain the usual potatoes and the lam crowns were dry and covered in a lot of mustard sauce. At earlier visits these kind of main courses were transported from the kitchen to the table under cover, which were then taken off the plates in front of you. But not today. The dessert card had changed. The deserts usually available to be prepared at the table were no longer available. A pity because our favourite has always been the Crepes Suzettes prepared at the table by Josep or the head waiter. The cheese plate and the melting chocolate cake were however nice – but not what we had hoped for. During our lunch we asked the head waiter whether the rumours of Sa Punta hotel and restaurant having been sold to new owners were true – and he confirmed. Therefore the following friendly message to the new owners: Please do not change anything. Josep and Jaume have successfully created our favourite place to come in our area for many years. If you do change you will loose us !!
Service was good, dining room was nicely decked out. Menu looks great and we were excited. We ordered a Palamos shrimp salad to share one shrimp each and literally an artichoke cut into quarters, plus some lettuce on the side (that we asked for). My main was a Suquet of fish a Catalan fish stew with potatoes. I was expecting a bowl of stew with fish in it. Literally, one shrimp, 2 small pieces of white fish, 4 miniscule potatoes (one bite each) and a dribble of sauce at the bottom of the plate. My wife ordered lamb and same story, tasting menu portion arrived. So basically, tasting menu portions for Michelin star prices 29 euros for my suquet, over 30 euros for my wife’s dish. Overall, a bottle of wine (30 euros) plus a starter to share, 2 mains and a bottle of water for over 130 euros!! I would say that the food is just ok (3 stars), the service good (4 stars) but value is 1 star to 0.5 stars. Hence the rating of 2 stars. We left disappointed tbh.
