Was Idler at Ca La Pruna a mag?
We came here for a few beers at about noon after a leisurely stroll around the picturesque little town of Pals. The terrace was a lovely place to relax, and the young staff were really chatty and friendly. I can't speak for the food, but the staff paella they were tucking into before it got busy looked allright enough. View all feedback.
What fluxan dislikes about Ca La Pruna:
I agree with a lot of the low ratings on TA for this restaurant. We had to find our own table outside at first. When we finally got a waiter to come over 15 mins later (the restaurant was almost empty) they rudely told us we can only order food or drinks but not at the same time. When my food came (ham pizza) it was awful, it did definitely could have been frozen. At some point after we had ordered drinks, I saw the waiter just standing at the bar on his phone rather than getting our drinks which took 10 minutes on their own. I would suggest you try the restaurant up the stairs, looks a lot nicer than this one, don't be fooled by the nice location.
This was the worst food of our whole 6 weeks trip and I thought we had already had the worst! The terrace looked nice and we didnt have access to wifi to look at reviews, so we ended up here for lunch. Menu looked oooookay and when I saw FRESH JUICE on the menu I had to have one! It was a really hot day so a cold fresh juice would go down nicely! I was soooo wrong. There's not a fresh piece of ANYTHING in this place let alone fruit. The juices were syrup/cordial mixed with water. Sickly sweet and couldn't drink it. The food is also all frozen and deep fried etc. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich. Reconstituted chicken and cheese slices that looked and tasted like space food. Lucky I ordered a salad that had no meat, it was still tasteless but at least I knew what I was eating. Waiters look dead bored too, the waitresses were nice though. Again, one of those places that's in the right location so they make zero effort. It's a tourist trap, avoid if you can!

After walking the streets of Pals we were hungry but not for a full meal more a snack so when we saw Ca La Pruna on the way to the car park it looked a likely stop. We chose from the menu , 3 had salads and one melon and ham, when the food arrived we were absolutely amazed at the portions , variety of ingredients and the quality of presentation and ingredients. So much so we could only manage a bowl of soup for our evening meal as we were so full. The young lady Akira who attended to us seemed to be on her own and did the bar kitchen and serving and was very good, pleasant and to be commended . We cannot understand the negative reports we have read from last year unless it is new management. Definitely recommended by our party of 4.
We had the misfortune of eating at this poor restaurant. Firstly the toilet. Badly positioned next to the outside patio tables. 2) the only way to stop the hand dryer was by removing the plug out of the wall. You have to put the plug in yourself to start it... ' with wet hands ' The food Calamari. I could smell the old cooking oil from the terrace. It arrived...it was truly truly dreadful. I had three mouthfuls and had to give up. It was foul! It was not eaten. My wife had nachos. Nachos are normally served up with some picante sauce and cheese grated on top, and accompanied by guacamole. The nachos arrived having literally just been poured from a packet onto the plate. The guacamole was heaped on the side of the plate. A lump of cheese sat in the middle. This also was truly awful. We had two cans of coke which did not go anywhere near the chef so were nice. I live in Spain part time and have been visiting for 15 years. This was the worst meal in all that time. The waiter was apologetic and didn 't charge for the nachos. They shouldn 't have charged for the calamari either it was that bad. All being said very very poor.
