Blue umbrella and paragliding make intoxicating cocktail. When I was told by my paragliding guy to wait at blue umbrella , I thuoght it to be another attempt to make fool of me, bt it was a pleasant surprise, they didnt mind us opening or own beer bottles, provided us with beer mugs. And in next 1 hr we fell in love with it. You can see sky full of gliders, and from roof top have clear view of the landing site. Food... View all feedback.
What Nikita Chaudhry doesn't like about Blue Umbrella:
I went for paragliding and the owner, Jyoti Thakur, is an amazing person who knows the business inside and out and is very helpful. I would give Jyoti 10 stars, but the pilot Surjit who was assigned to me was not good at all. He did not communicate well and took risks without explaining anything to me. Unlike my friends who were guided by their pilots to take off a video, he did not recommend anything to me. I did no... View all feedback.
We visited the Blue Umbrella in the peak holiday season. Actually we were looking for a place to stay in Palampur but could not get one. Then someone referred blue umbrella to us. Its 25-30 kms from Palampur in a place called Bir. Its a internationally renowned paragliding spot and is dominated by Tibetans with two monasteries nearby. Other attraction is Tea factory. The resort is a new one and kind of under construction. The first thing to notice was the library with a good collection of novels and books. The next thing was a baithak with carrom board and chess games. The food was just like home made food and rooms were clean. The overall cost of food stay was very affordable. Most tourists come there for para gliding. There is going to be an international paragliding festival in October-November. We really enjoyed our stay there and would love to go back again and try paragliding too as we didn't have time for it this time.
I went for Paragliding. The owner Jyoti Thakur is an amazing person. He knows the business in and out and is very helpful. I would have given 10 stars only for Jyoti. However the pilot Surjit who was assigned to me was not at all good. He does not communicates and assumes things. He infact risked my life by suddently saying Run without support - which is not what he had explained to me. Not even that unlike my other friends who were guided by pilots to take a video of take off, he did not recommend me anything. I don't have a take off video. This is not all. While paragliding he switched on still camera when sun was behind me. All pictures have come out dark. He clearly falls below expectation. Rest all experience was great. Thanks Jyoti.

It is better to tell them before you go for the jump, so that yo get it fast after the paragliding. All my friends whom I recommended this place simply loved it
Had dinner after visiting bir, good food and service was provided. service was good and fast. the food was delicious and fresh.
We visited The Blue Umbrella during the high season while looking for a place to stay in Palampur. We were unable to find accommodations there, and were recommended The Blue Umbrella instead. Located 25-30 km from Palampur in Bir, this area is renowned for paragliding and has a strong Tibetan presence with two nearby monasteries. Another attraction in the area is a tea factory. The resort is newly constructed and stands out for its unique architecture. We were impressed by the well-stocked library and entertainment options like carrom board and chess. The food was delicious and reminded us of home-cooked meals, and the rooms were clean. The overall cost of our stay, including meals, was very reasonable. Most tourists come to Bir for paragliding, and there is an international paragliding festival held in October-November. Although we didn't have time to try paragliding during this visit, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return in the future.
