El Tapatio
Description
Nestled in the heart of town, this Mexican eatery offers authentic and flavorful dishes like machaca con huevos and enchiladas verdes, complemented by generous portions and complimentary refills on house-made chips and salsa. While many diners praise the food’s quality and authenticity, experiences with service vary widely—from warm and attentive to inattentive and rushed. Some found the pricing steep, especially for extras like guacamole, and others noted issues with timing, such as cold fajitas. Despite mixed feedback on service and value, the vibrant flavors and welcoming atmosphere make it a worthwhile stop for Mexican cuisine enthusiasts.

Came with my mom for dinner and we were initially seated near the restroom by the host or restaurant manager (older guy with greying hair), which smelled like cleaning agent, and asked to be seated elsewhere. One of the wait staff gave us a booth and a waiter (short guy with a beard) was initially fast and friendly but he was nowhere to be found 15-20 minutes later. Finally came, forgot my wine and went off again. We finally ordered and got the taco salad and beefsteak which was quite delicious but the lack of service after our meal put me off from enjoying the dinner. We paid in cash and the waiter came back with angry look on his face…maybe he had a bad night or was overworked..anyways, the change was correct and I left a decent tip for him even though he barely interacted with us. Oh well.
We ordered the “Combo Appetizer” and “Fajitas for two”. Unfortunately both menus were brought to the table at the same time. Unfortunately, when we finished the combo appetizer, the fajitas were already cold. The food was okay, but definitely not the best Mexican food I've ever had.
First time trying fajitas and they were so good! I got the trio which included shrimp, chicken, and beef
The experience was average—neither great nor terrible. Prices seemed high for the quality received, and the food was lacking in flavor. However, we did enjoy the frozen strawberry margaritas. We were surprised to find that extra guacamole and sour cream cost nearly $4 without prior notice. Going forward, we will likely consider other dining options in the area.
