I have visited this restaurant a few times and it is good, especially their batter. However, it is quite expensive. It is worth a visit, but if you are taking your family, be prepared to spend at least £20. It is likely the most expensive takeaway in the area! View all feedback.
What Sue doesn't like about Stein's Delicatessen:

Padstow, also known as 'Padstein' due to celebrity chef Rick Stein's presence, is home to a variety of dining options. Instead of dining at his pricey Seafood Restaurant, we opted for a more casual lunch at Stein's Fish & Chips. Located on South Quay, the restaurant offers take-out and dine-in options. Although slightly off the beaten path from the harbor and other dining spots, it's worth the short walk. Upon arrival, we were quickly seated at a high bench with a view out the window. We ordered Haddock and Plaice with mushy peas as sides, which arrived promptly in cardboard boxes. While the fish was fresh and well-cooked, the batter was not to my liking and the chips were undercooked. Overall, it was a decent meal in a cozy setting.
If you decide to put your name on a restaurant (and Mr. Stein seems to have put his name on most of the businesses in Padstow, not just the restaurants), customers will expect something exceptional. Unfortunately, the only thing exceptional at this establishment was the high prices. Whether you choose to dine in or take away, the fish and chips are served in a cardboard container. During our visit yesterday, the special offer was cod, chips, bread and butter, and a cup of tea for £6.40. The portion of cod was on the smaller side, but it was decent. The chips seemed to have been sitting under a heat lamp for a while, with some at the top being chunkier and more potato-like, while those at the bottom were shrivelled and overcooked. The pre-buttered bread was bland and served as two pieces stuck together. The tartar sauce cost an additional 75p for a small, greasy, and tasteless pot, which was subpar compared to other places. Despite the restaurant being only half full due to the time of year, the cramped seating made it difficult to move around. We only dined here because of the celebrity name, but we regretted not choosing elsewhere for better value and quality food.
Been here a few times and its good, especially their batter but it is expensive. Worth a visit but if you're taking the family you'll need Probably the priciest takeaway around!
Padstow is also known as Padstein' as it seems celebrity chef Rick Stein has taken over the town with his various eating venues and food establishments. We decided not to shell out for a meal at his expensive Seafood Restaurant, but opted instead for a relaxed lunch at Stein's Fish Chips, which offers take away and also has an eat-in section. You may need to ask directions to find the place, as its address of South Quay' is not particularly helpful, and it is located away from the harbour and the majority of restaurants/cafes, though only a short walk. When we arrived there was a short queue, but after only a couple of minutes wait we were seated in a prime position at a high bench looking out the window. This was perfect for the two of us, as all the other seating is at communal tables and was a little cramped. We ordered a Haddock chips and a Plaice chips, both with sides of mushy peas. The food arrived fairly quickly, casually served in cardboard take away boxes. The fish was obviously fresh and well cooked, though I wasn't too keen on the batter, and the chips were under-cooked and too starchy.
