Nice little country restaurant with hearty country food and an Italian influence. Food was of good quality although not exceptional. Service was a little bit lacking and not very warm. The best food is their gnocchi and pasta dishes. Not many options in OXLEY so if you are in the area its probably the best option. View all feedback.
What Philippe Dumont doesn't like about King River Cafe:
Had lunch hear on the way to Bright. Very friendly service from the staff. Had the Red Duck Curry, great flavours but let down by the beautifully cooked duck leg sitting on broccoli and cauliflower. The cauliflower is a highly questionable choice. Potato and leak soup had a strange curry flavour and was not enjoyed. Kids had the basic nuggets and chips, they enjoyed. Not sure if we will be back. Excellent choice of menu (however different what was published on their website) and a good variety of local wines. The food was excellent and served within a good timeframe.
We came here today with friends on our way travelling home from Bright. We were excited for a yummy lunch so I looked up reviews of places in a very large area. The reviews of this place were the best and seemed too good not to try. You don't often see such amazing reviews of a restaurant. Hopefully they were just having a really bad day but we were so disappointed. We'll never be back to know if it was just a bad day though; wouldn't take the risk. The place was very busy (mostly an older crowd) when we arrived for lunch. We were lucky to get the last table outside. It was really lovely sitting outside with a lovely garden and a nice sunny day. The service was extremely slow and seemed inexperienced. Our coffees were really badly made and didn't taste nice at all - half of the flat whites were froth and the long black was terrible and served in a latte glass. The food (the main part of dining out!) was so disappointing. The pasta dishes were overlooked, small, tasteless and watery. The pork cheek was average at best. Although the rosti was very nice. No one served our table once we had the food so we couldn't even give the feedback and when we paid no one asked how our meals were. The staff in the kitchen and serving all looked about 15 years all, all but one lady. All in all, very disappointing!
My husband, children and I have eaten at this cafe/restaurant many times. We try to coordinate our travel so we can stop there. This time, as always, the food was fresh, creative and absolutely delicious. The family run business uses as much locally sourced produce as possible. During a 5 day trip to the Beechworth/ Bright area we are here twice- once for lunch ( we rode from Beechworth which encouraged me to think that I could have a dessert!) and the other time was for a dinner ( this time we weren't dressed in Lycra!)The staff are to be applauded for their consistent efforts over the years. We always look forward to eating there. Thank you

We had heard rave reviews about this place so were a little disappointed. I was expecting exceptional and it was fine but not mind blowing. Service was good even though they were very busy and the staff were very friendly. Certainly a great spot to grab lunch when touring and I suspect it is popular with locals.
