I was recommended this place by a friend, and I'm so thankful they did. Tucked behind a hotel is this delightful pub with great outdoor seating. The staff was friendly, and the food was fantastic. I'm really glad we chose this spot for our lunch, and I'll definitely return when I'm back in Oxford! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Turf Tavern:
Went there on a weekday for lunch while visiting oxford, food tasted great drinks were good as well would have been a higher stars if the food didn't take close to 2 hours to arrive, we might have left if it wasn't that we had paid already. They did apologize and offer us drinks on them which is why I'm giving them 3 stars. Hopefully it was a one time issue cause food was indeed great. View all feedback.
I agree with the majority of reviews that this spot is a hidden gem in Oxford. I was fortunate enough to visit on a lovely day for a pint and a slice of cake, and I was not disappointed. I ordered the steak and ale pie with chips, accompanied by a pint of Reggie's Turf (named after the owner's dog, Rainy), and it was just perfect! I highly recommend trying one of their cakes when they come around—it’s a great choice for lunch. They offer a varied selection of other dishes, although I haven’t tried anything else since the cake was so tempting. The atmosphere in the restaurant is delightful and full of local charm. The staff is friendly and very helpful in navigating the menu. The restrooms were clean, too. If you're in Oxford and want to experience a tavern from the 12th century, this is definitely the place to go.

Beautiful bar with lots of space in free and tables. calm inside. to find something tricky. a secret street opposite a large white house and turn left! was a harry potter cast favorit apparently fair!
A hidden gem . A must visit if you’re visiting Oxford. Fits in very nicely after a 90 minute walking tour of the splendid historic city and colleges. Buzzy atmosphere, friendly young staff, good range of ales and ‘proper’ substantive pub food. My steak pie and mash early evening was ‘just the job’. Gets busy. Many a famous customer over the years.
It’s definitely worth the effort to locate this pub, tucked away between two buildings on the street. The food is fantastic! The old pub area is a real treat to experience. Be careful not to miss it—there's a very low ceiling!
