Although we live nearby, we had never been to The Village Thai until now, and I can't believe we waited so long! Both the bar staff and restaurant staff provided excellent service. The menu offers a great selection of Thai dishes, as well as English options for those who prefer it. Our food was delicious and reasonably priced. We will definitely be coming back again. The food was absolutely delicious - the sesame prawn toast was the best I've ever had, and the Thai green curry and stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts were perfect. The presentation was homely and the flavors were spot on, reminding us of a meal cooked by a Thai grandmother. We decided to keep this hidden gem to ourselves, as we didn't want it to get too crowded like other places Giles has reviewed in Oxford. The Village Thai surpassed the two Chinese restaurants Giles has covered in terms of quality, all in a charming old-fashioned Irish pub setting. The meal and drinks came to a total of £36, making it well worth the drive out.
I visited Village Thai for takeout, after dining in the restaurant in February. The takeout meal was just as delicious as the restaurant food. The dishes were flavorful, and the staff was friendly and attentive while we waited for our order.

The Eight Bells is obviously a pub, but a very comfortable and pleasant local hostelry with a number of local 'characters ' gathered in the bar. The landlord/owner Tommy is a friendly irishman with a good selection of beers available. Let 's get to the food in a separate dining room (very smart) there is a separate business, 'The Village Thai ' with a nice lady owner and a Thai chef. We had the £15 set meal which comprised a selection of starters followed by half a dozen main courses. The food was superb and the staff very pleasant. This was our first visit (although our companions had been before) and we would most definitely return.
How have we not been to this place before!!! It certainly won't be the last visit... if you fancy a Thai book now you won't be disappointed. Thank you and see you soon x
