The Anchor is our favorite gastropub in the area and always delivers. Last night was no different. The indoor space is welcoming and there is also a spacious outdoor area. The atmosphere is very laid-back. View all feedback.
What Unimpressed doesn't like about The Anchor:
We booked the Anchor a week in advance because we were travelling to Oxford from West Yorkshire and liked the look of the menu and location. We confirmed the booking via the app the day before and actually arrived two hours early due to the weather and confirmed we were happy to sit in the bar and wait until 7.00 PM before ordering. When we did order we were informed that it was a Sunday menu only and not all options... View all feedback.
Food was Ok let down by a very dry chicken which in fairness was not charged for. Service was very slow. Value even with deduction seems low for quite basic pub grub. Also wine very expansive for anything half decent, as much as a symptom of the times Left feeling underwhelmed by what we had for what we paid.
Eating was good, although I send my back to be warmed up, but service was something missing
I like trying The Anchor as it is a good convenient location. Service is OK but can often appear disorganised: my pint of 6X from the bar took AGES. The menu (on a Sunday at least) is limited (and unchanged from when I last went several weeks ago). Food was OK but well over £20 for a chicken burger and a pint (and a service charge) is on the steep side, even in these post-lockdown days
Very nice ambience eating outdoors under shelter and with good heaters, but waited a long time for food and it wasn’t all that good! The menu descriptions sounded nice, but the reality was food that wasn’t very tasty, was too bland and in some cases, like the kebab, there was so little salad that it shouldn’t have even been mentioned!
As ever, very good fish and chips. Warm outdoor lunch area. Good value for money
