This restaurant is the best, always. I trust you to decide. They know what they're doing and every dish is fantastic! My recommendation is the slow-cooked pork dishes. The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly, the prices are fair, and the food is top-notch. You can't go wrong here.
I went to the restaurant on Saturday for an early dinner. It was not very crowded and had a relaxed atmosphere. We ordered hot and sour soup and a variety of dim sum. Since we weren't too hungry, it was nice to be able to sample different dishes. The food was fantastic - the soup and the various dim sum were both delicious. Overall, a job well done by the restaurant.
Fantastic Chinese food at a great price with friendly staff. Conveniently located just a short walk from Oxford city centre. Highly recommended!
Sojo really seems to be dining out on decade old accolades. The food is fundamentally good, however the service and the wine list could be improved so easily and to great effect. For two of us we ordered: Sesame prawn toast unavailable Dim sum taster for two great Salt and pepper squid excellent Filo wrapped prawns great Cantonese chicken and cashew nuts with mixed veg avoid Sojo special crispy noodles amazing Bottle of Rioja avoid We cleared our plates of the squid, prawns, dim sum, and the noodles. Sadly the chicken with cashew nuts tasted more like it was an English stew made with an Oxo cube, where the chicken breast had dried out and the veg really wasn't mixed but was essentially celery. The Rioja was awful. If I can buy a palatable bottle of Rioja in a supermarket for £6, then why is it not available in a restaurant for £18? The wine tasted of vinegar and smelled of vinegar, and this was the belief between two of us who had not met for some months, and who had had very different days one outdoors, and the other indoors. It cannot be coincidence that we both smelled and tasted the same acidic hue to this very light coloured, poor wine. It was so bad that the two of us left a third of a bottle behind a waste of money but also a literally sour accompaniment to the meal. The waiting staff accepted our comments about the chicken with cashew nuts and took this off our bill. However, the waiter became extremely defensive about the wine, telling us that it was one of the most popular wines when the restaurant opened 10 years ago. Perhaps if it hadn't been kept so long it may have tasted better? With such fantastic wine suppliers in the Oxford area, such as the Oxford Wine Company and Majestic Wine, there is no excuse for a city centre restaurant to have a poor wine list. The restaurant still advertises its write up by Giles Corren, who I heard on the radio only two nights ago, speaking pompously and like an over privileged muppet with no connection to reality, so perhaps it is time that Sojo focuses on being more consistent with its food and service, rather than dining out on the distant past.
Food is good but too oily especially veg. Also a little bit overpriced.
