The restaurant is now called The Apron. I pride myself on making a great sausage gravy with biscuits, but I have to admit that his is even better than mine! The biscuits are homemade, and the sausage gravy has a wonderful hint of heat and sweetness—absolutely delicious! The burger was fantastic, and the fries looked amazing... I'll definitely be trying those next time. I'm excited to explore more of the menu; it's a... View all feedback.
What TheWiseOwl AZ dislikes about 1:
We decided to try this restaurant after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. It's situated in the regional airport building, but there are no signs to direct you. As someone with a sensitive sense of smell and taste, I was immediately struck by the overwhelming fishy odor when the seafood chowder arrived. The ammonia-like scent was quite off-putting. Unfortunately, my first taste confirmed my suspicions; fish should not h... View all feedback.
Small, fun place to go to at the Owl'sHead Airport. . Excellent food and big window to watch the small planes take off and come in. Very relaxed and not rushed. Can sit down right away if there's a seat.
My husband picked up breakfast sandwiches and cookies one morning. They were delicious. If you are staying in Owls Head it is very convenient. Recommend breakfast or lunch.
We were so happy to find the Salty Owl! We've been here three times in two days and have already planned our future meals around their weekly schedule (Friday Monday)! The way we see it, we have their intriguing Taco pop up tomorrow for lunch and a final breakfast on Friday before we leave! Also great for people (like me) who like hanging out in airports! Everything we've had has been great especially the baked goods, handpies and a breakfast sandwich that deserves some sort of award for breakfast sandwiches. This place is special!
When planning a trip to Owls Head State Park, I selected this cafe to grab breakfast. Used GPS on my iPhone was a little surprised that it took us to the Knox County Regional Airport. Were we at the right place? Sure enough, this cafe is in this tiny airport. Because of the hidden location, most diners seemed to be locals except the day we were there, diners also included artists for a craft show in the airport. THIS IS NOT AIRPORT FOOD! Everything is homemade enjoyed a slice of tasty goat cheese onion quiche which was warm with a nicely toasted top a puff pastry crust. Husband had the Breakfast hand pie (local sausage, scrambled eggs, white cheddar and potatoes). All hand pies are made to order. The menu items combine interesting flavors so this not your run of the mill breakfast/lunch place. Be sure to check out the daily selection of candies baked goods. I bought some delicious Dark Chocolate coated Sea Salt Caramels for a snack later. Chatted with the friendly manager who was at the counter that day. She told us about the owners Erin Armbruster Casey Dominguez. Erin does the baking of all the wonderful baked goods. Adding to the charm, the food is served on mismatched pieces of Delft silverware. Worth taking a little detour to eat at this cafe.
