Contribute Feedback What Gene Watts doesn't like about Sumo By Nambara:
We waited 30 minutes for sushi one sushi dish of four ordered arrived. Complained. The chef cooked dinner, one more sushi dish arrived (it was lose and made wrong..no sushi chef). The couple next to us complained that they had not received their sushi the manager and a waitress (we had never seen) said, she delievered it....turns out it was what they delievered to us. I complained to the manager he said it was so bus... View all feedback.

For reasons too numerous and puzzling to go into here, my son got married at Sumo (you heard me right) a week before Christmas. I really wish I could go into the whole story here, but suffice to say we had an *indepth* experience at Sumo. I 'm an indifferent consumer of Japanese steak houses I 'd rather have killer burnt ends than airborne shrimp and flaming onion towers but I 've been to most in Kansas City and I would definitely throw Sumo on the top of all of 'em (if I could throw a restaurant named Sumo). Sumo has a full liquor bar and an equally well appointed sushi bar. Whether you want a drink, a quick bite of raw food, or a sit down dinner Sumo intends to satisfy. Our wedding party took up all ten stations across the front (south) side of the restaurant. This area easily seated 100 guests staying for dinner plus a dozen or more drive by celebrants. Guests pre ordered steak, chicken, or shrimp dinners. The performance and preparation was steakhouse standard, but it was excellent and delicious as expected. I really want to brag on the owner, Ivy, who could not have possibly been more accommodating, felicitous, and supportive. When the idea of hosting the wedding at Sumo first arose, I thought I heard a cluster bomb ticking. Instead, the whole event was virtually effortless (for parents of the groom). Decorations and other preparations were carried off perfectly thanks to Ivy 's generosity and assistance. She balked at no request and suggested many helpful ideas. I was blown away. If you 're in the mood for a fantastic date night or, believe it or not, if you 're in the mood to tie the knot at a Japanese steakhouse named after an overweight athlete, you cannot make a better choice than Sumo.
