We ate very, very well! The quality of the food is outstanding. The chef knows his craft! I had the lock plate with steak, which was exactly on point, still slightly pink on the inside and not at all chewy, a great hollandaise sauce and even the broccoli tasted great. Everything to the point. I'm thrilled, I've never eaten so well. We also had the schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce, also excellent, and the fried potatoes were great. So, everything is correct here. You have to be able to overlook or love the ambience that is so old-fashioned/traditional, very cramped and small... You are compensated and rewarded for that with the food! Very inconspicuous, located and hardly noticeable. You have to know that it is there and that there is good food otherwise no one will come. Prices okay too.
We ate there for the first time and were truly impressed. It's difficult to get in without a reservation, though. Excellent German cuisine. The chef knows his craft. Absolutely top-notch and so delicious. The service was truly delightful and friendly. We take our hats off to her for managing to carry full, hot plates up and down the stairs what felt like 100 times over, still smiling throughout the evening. Amazing! The old Wümme lock is a somewhat labyrinthine space spread over three floors, beautifully rustic and charmingly designed. Thick wooden beams at the bar and exposed beams on the ceiling. Old equipment adorns the walls. In the summer, you can also sit comfortably on the large terrace.
Every day, for years, when I drive into town, I wonder when the unsightly bucket above the broken lamp in front of the building will be replaced with a new glass globe. It's becoming increasingly verdigris.
