We go to this restaurant 2 or 3 times per year and I’ve never had a bad meal. My only complaint is that the wine seems to be pricier than it ought to be.In summer the courtyard patio is beautiful with fairy lights and lots of flowers. On cooler nights they light the large outdoor stone fireplace. This time we started with bowls of lobster bisque which was good I then had the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce. The gnocchi... What Jonas Brito doesn't like about La Piazza:
Visited this restaurant for lunch during the Dickson Days weekend. The restaurant was basically empty and the service was extremely slow. All items on the lunch menu are $18.00. Rather expensive for lunch. My friend and I avoided the lunch menu so she ordered fried zucchini and I ordered a Caesar salad & calamari for us to share. The fried food portions were very small and average tasting. The fried food prices on ou... View all feedback.

The gnocchi normally comes with rose sauce, but I would recommend asking for the gorgonzola sauce as this is something this restaurant does notably well. The DH had lasagna which he said was delish. Each of us devoured our dishes until the plates nearly shined. I wanted to lick my plate, but the DH wouldn’t let me.
The owner unexpectedly entertained a small group of customers at a table in his restaurant. There were long wait times for three tables and several menu items were not available, including pizza, calf dishes, and a bark meat dish. We ordered a glass of wine and a Coors Light, but the server was unsure if they had the latter and had to check. When they returned, they informed us of the available options, which were all imports as no domestic beers were in stock. We ordered the manicotti for dinner and fried calamari as an appetizer. The server brought us a few pieces of calamari on a plate, saying that was all they had and offered it to us for free, along with a plate of manicotti. We explained that we had both ordered the manicotti for our main course and had been waiting for it. We had to wait for another serving of manicotti to be prepared. No bread rolls, coffee, tea, or dessert were offered after the meal, only the bill. It was a strange and disappointing dining experience. The restaurant's website was not working at the time, we were unable to contact the owners before leaving a negative review.
We have been dining at La Piazza in Manotick occasionally over the years and have consistently found that the food quality does not match up to what it used to be. A few years ago, the kitchen was very good and the owner took pride in visiting all tables to ensure satisfaction. However, recently, the food quality has declined from mediocre to poor, as well as the owner's attention. Last night was the final straw for us. Due to COVID-19, we decided to dine on the nicely set up terrace. There were only two other tables, one of which was occupied by the owner, which should have been a warning sign. The service was poor, the beer bottle on our table was warm, and we were not even offered glasses. We ordered calamari, mussels, and risotto balls. The calamari dish was very small and rubbery in texture, the mussels were overcooked and sitting in extremely salty water, and there was much discussion at the table about the disappointing dishes. After all four of us tried the mussels, we were ready for them to be cleared. We expressed our dissatisfaction to the server, who then talked to the owner. It took 25 minutes for our main courses to arrive, which was understandable because the thin crust pizza is made from scratch. My wife received a dried out, overcooked brick of lasagna without any garnish or sauce, while I got a bland and dry chicken parmesan with fatty meat. Our guests had pizzas that they found to be cold and dry. When the server brought our dishes, she mentioned that if we hadn't eaten the mussels, the manager could have done something for us. This was insulting, as we were not looking for freebies, we just wanted to feel taken care of. Needless to say, we will not be returning.
The service and food quality have declined at this once-favorite restaurant. Missing ingredients resulted in disappointment every time we tried to order a meal. The portion sizes were small, leaving us still feeling hungry, especially as a family of four. The waitress was rarely in sight, and we had to flag down another waitress multiple times. The owner seemed more interested in sitting at a table than ensuring the functioning of the service. The terrace ambiance was lovely, but the hanging flower baskets posed a concern for our children seated next to them. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to La Piazza. Thank you for the memories, but they will be the last.
