Anthony's Pizzeria on Wellington has become a regular haunt over the past several months because they have managed to find consistency and quality without compromise. They have now opened a new location on Bank Street in the Glebe area of Ottawa, and have managed to bring the same quality product to the table. We stopped by the new location on the weekend and were happy to see the wood-burning oven front and center. Anthony's features thin crust wood-fired pizza's with light toppings and fresh ingredients. We had a large group and so 4 or 5 different selections were brought to the table, fresh and hot. As inevitably happens with a wood burning oven, some of the edges were a little on the blackened side (I personally like them that way,) but that was the only (albeit slight) complaint. The pizza's seem to be just about the right size to satisfy your appetite without leaving you bloated and immobile. The spicy oil is always on the table, and the requested choices of hot sauce were voted by all to be a challenge for even the more seasoned palates. Drop by if you get a chance. If the new location is anything like the old, it will soon catch on and seating will be at a premium even on off nights. If you are ready to graduate from the heavy cheese-ladened product that has come to symbolize North American pies, and have a hankering for a lighter more varied fare, this is the place for you. What could be more Canadian after all, than eating a meal freshly cooked over an open fire. Dress is casual and the decor urban industrial.
