Beautiful museum that plunges us into James Ensor's life and universe and helps us to better understand his work. Few originals, but the artist's environment and explanations are clearly worth the detour. Followed by an audio-guided tour around the museum that is part of the visit. View all feedback.
James Ensor's home When we think of Ostend in the past, we see this gentleman with a white beard and a long black coat on the dike very often accompanied by his Auguste acolyte. This is of course James Ensor. The doors of the museum and its old residence were pushed to enter the universe of the artist a little 'anarchist' (for the time) I especially loved his old house. Nothing moved and the exhibits remained as such. I love these pieces filled with stories and mysteries. For children, this museum is super playful and educational. The girls were able to touch everything except for the period house. They had to investigate in the museum to find the fake work exhibited. They were able to do so thanks to the audio guide adapted to children and a didactic booklet. It's very nice as a quest for the loulous. In some museum lounges find games, models in which they were able to pass the head, puzzles, special observations,... I found this museum super well adapted to children and it's a shame that it is so far because I could have taken my students there. Anyway, a great museum with super nice staff. The house of James Ensor remained in his juice, nothing has changed since his death in 1949, his living room, his mother's shop etc.
Welcome to the top. Very pleasant and interesting visit.
Good welcome Interesting Accessible to PMR and strollers Too bad there are no original works for 12€ the entrance
