After waiting for three months, we finally got a table at Vandelay, known as "Maaemo's casual little sister" (Husa/Orr quote). It was definitely worth the wait. The restaurant has a fantastic blend of American diner and French bistro vibes. We tried the burger, which was outstanding.
Had a fantastic time at a trendy restaurant in Oslo. Will definitely be back when I visit the city again.
The food and service are great, but unfortunately, it is too expensive for what you get. They charge too much for their cheapest bottle of white wine on the menu, about 1000 kr. I find it unnecessary. There are other restaurants around the corner that offer good wine at cheaper prices. A 200 kr difference is all it takes to lose repeat customers, so we will not be returning.
They would think that vandelay will be worth when entering their doors, but the reality is that eating and service does not match the price tag. at least not for me. there are three things that make a restaurant worth salt, eating, service and experience (the eating and service make the experience) and more.
