The Spar Pole - Orting
The Spar Pole
Description
Situated as a local hangout, the Spar Pole offers a lively atmosphere with ample TV screens. While patrons appreciate the great burgers and reasonable drink prices, the food quality leaves much to be desired, often being described as greasy or overpriced. Service experiences vary, with some guests enjoying attentiveness while others encountered issues, particularly regarding tipping and staff interactions. Improvements are suggested, such as upgrading furniture and enhancing the sports viewing experience. Despite its flaws, the Spar Pole remains a community staple, welcoming those seeking a laid-back vibe and the promise of potential culinary improvements.

I recently visited this restaurant for the first time, and I have to say it has a nice atmosphere with plenty of TVs. We ended up ordering around $400 worth of drinks while playing darts and pool, and the service was decent. However, things took a turn at the end of our visit when the waitress came out into the street and yelled at us, telling us never to come back because we left her a $16 tip. It's important to note that we had to go to the bar to get our own drinks and return our empty bottles. The waitress only brought out the wings and fries once. It seems strange that they would prefer to lose the $500 we spent rather than appreciate our patronage.
I found the food options to be quite limited when I arrived, as everything was fried. Unfortunately, the greasy fare didn't sit well with my stomach. Perhaps the cooking oil needs to be changed. Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
This is the best hidden gem bar to visit during the day in the county. The bartenders are attentive and whip up fantastic cocktails. While the food is traditional, it tends to be quite overpriced, but that's not on them. Price per person: $20–30. Food: 5/5. Service: 5/5. Atmosphere: 5/5.
I don't love nor hate the Spar Pole. It's just an alright hole in the wall which I believe is the goal for the owners. However, I would love to see it turn into a true sports bar. They have the space and the foundation. Add more bar stools and high tops; upgrade from rock hard bar stools to decently comfortable units; there are a few small tvs with glaring bright spots, and a projection screen that is clearly burnt out. Upgrade those tv's and projector. And just one example here: tell the staff to air Thursday night football games instead of senior citizen footcare infomercials. Seriously, have the Kraken, Mariners, and Hawks schedules posted for your staff and make sure the games are turned on before they start. The beer is great here, and reasonably priced. The salads and burgers are top notch. The $10 dinners (when they are posted) are pretty good. I do wish there were more $5 side dishes to snack on as most of the $11 appetizers seem way overpriced for the Costco freezer food that they are. In a nutshell, this could be a 5 star rating. Fix the TVs and broadcast sporting events at all times. Upgrade the bar stools. Get a few more high top tables. Add some cheap snacks/sides to the menu. All areas where rival L&M win my business. Fortunately for Spar Pole, the L&M hired some awful bartenders with nasty attitudes so we keep our business at the Spar now.
