The lighthouse itself is remarkable, standing as the tallest operating lighthouse in the British Isles at 42 meters. Climbing the 176 stairs to the top is an incredible experience, showcasing both the engineering prowess and the stunning architecture of the structure. If you get the chance to visit the island, I highly recommend seeing the lighthouse and the original one located on the outskirts.

The lighthouse guard was very friendly and gave an interesting summary of the history of the lighthouse. the lighthouse itself is perfectly maintained and its laterne testifies to the finest Victorian art. from above you could see humburgh head, foula and fair isle.
It is a beautiful place in a wee island of North Ronaldsay.
Loved our tour Billy had the best stories. Sarah was lovely too.
