We came to orgosolo to see the graffiti. the city had an abandoned feeling. we wanted to go back to our hotel, but decided to stop at lunch. we followed a few signs and reached this hotel. the host was very nice, the food was fresh and felt that she prepared it at this moment. very good raviolis and nice service. with us there were only a few locals who also enjoyed eating.
While we toured the picturesque orgosolo with its historical wall paintings, we enjoyed a fabulous lunch in the ristorante sa 'e jana. we were looking for authentic central Sardinian cuisine and sa 'e jana not disappointed. we were the only ones in the restaurant that is housed in a hotel with the same name. first it seemed that the restaurant was closed. we went to the kitchen and once they realized that they had customers, the kitchen and the staff came to live. this is a family business and operation and we were warmly welcomed by several family members. the matriarch, a nice woman with a warm smile, reported that she passed on her traditional recipes to her son. they were all very proud of their facility. we wanted to taste so many things without pampering or getting too full to finish everything. there were three of us for a Sunday dinner and the staff recommended to order two portions per course. that was a great idea and we made the plan. we started with a mixed antipasto of local cured meat, salami 's, sausage, prosciutto, oliven and three species of pecorino cheese; smoked, aged and framed. this came with a basket of the absolutely best disc carasau (sardinian flat brot) I have ever tasted. the owner proudly reported that he has a private woman who makes the disc carasau home, in a wood stove, for his restaurant. for the pasta course we had curlurgiones, which is a type of large ravioli filled with kartoffel, garlic and mint; embroidered with a creamy pecorino cheese and immersed with reduced balsamico vinegar. the court was excellent! the entrée consisted of two meat dishes; pecora bollito (both sheep) with potatoes and a braided sheep dish. I had cooked sheep eaten (ewe) many years ago with a group of Sardinian men and I was very pleased to repeat the experience in sa 'e jana. I recommend to try ristorante sa 'e jana when they are in the region orgosolo. the prices were very reasonable with our meal, plus half a liter house wine, water and caffe total 68 euro.
