The Spotted Horse Tavern Dining Parlor

I typically don’t post reviews (either good or bad) but this restaurant definitely deserves a poor rating. My husband and I live in Lake Charles. As such, we have access to some high quality restaurants that offer stellar food and service. Perhaps my expectations are too high, but the food in this restaurant is lacking in every way. I ordered the filet with asparagus and hollandaise sauce. My husband ordered the filet with crawfish cornbread with a wedge salad. The wedge salad was standard. It had a stong mayo taste but was otherwise ok although it could use a balsamic glaze IMO. Both filets were cooked to perfection but there needs some type of reduction sauce as it was just a piece of meat laying on a bare plate. The asparagus was cooked to perfection but they forgot the hollandaise sauce. My husbands crawfish cornbread was DRY DRY DRY....and the entire slice of bread only had two crawfish that we could identify. The wait staff was extremely friendly. Krystal was our server and she was great. The hostess was also extremely friendly. I really wanted to enjoy this meal but it left me wanting to go to the kitchen and teach the chef a few things. Get a new chef or revamp the menu or you will struggle to get repeat customers.

This gets one star strictly because our server was good. He even warned us of what not to order. I only wish his tastebuds were a little more refined. The food is horrible, tasteless and other similar adjectives. Save your pocketbook and your digestive system and avoid this one.

The food was fantastic!! The servers were friendly and the place was packed but the food still came out really quickly. This was our first time eating here and we will definitely be back again!
