She mentioned that it was only n... read more Myself and my girlfiend had dinner in Maré during our stay in Olhao from Ireland, on the recommendation of your rental car rep. She mentioned that it was only newly opened by her friends but was very good. We decided to go (with a pinch of salt friend recommendations can be biased! and were blown away. The decor was very quirky and appealing and the service was the best we had during our stay. Our two hosts seemed genuinely delighted to have us dining and spent a lot of time explaing the menu and recommending the best dishes. Claudio(? in particular was excellent and made for a great host. The food was fantastic. Everything was based on shrimp in new and innovative ways. We had burger sliders with a shrimp patty which was phenomenal. I had a simple gambas and avacado starter which was the best thing I'd tasted during my stay in Olhao. Mains were fantastic as well. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. It's always nice to see new ventures trying something different and I really hope Maré succeeds. It would be my top pick if I returned to Olhao. Food was fantastic but the top tier service and warmth from the host sets it apart.

It is located in a small street. As the name already tells you, everything is based on shrimps. The food is excellent and the service also. The waiter have us an explanation about the menu and all choices. My wife ordered the 'shrimps in tempura ' and I the 'shrimps Costa ' as a starter. And the shrimps lasagna as main course. Only one because my wife was not so hungry. When the order was taking we did make some jokes about, that she will take a bite of my lasagna. So when the waiter brought the lasagna, he had two plates, so we could share the lasagna! The starters and lasagna were perfect!! So perfect that we asked for the lasagna receipt. A couple minutes later we got the ingredients handwritten on paper. Wow what a service and great food and Wine!!

Some creations are more successful than others and none offer what most people would consider to be a 'big ' meal. It 's more about quality than quantity, so you 'll have to order more courses (and pay accordingly) if you want to leave feeling full. Personally, I prefer larger amounts of simply prepared high quality fresh food, rather than artistic creations, but I can see the attraction of this place and many seem to like what it does, so hats off to them for being different (and successful).
