Reviews - Sofia Restaurant Bar
Reviews summary
Sofia Restaurant has garnered attention for its elegant ambiance and solid Italian cuisine, particularly known for dishes like spaghetti, veal, and grilled mushrooms. While many patrons praised the food and beautiful atmosphere, there were mixed reviews regarding service quality, with instances of long wait times and occasional front-of-house issues. The ambiance, while stunning, has been criticized for overly loud music detracting from the dining experience. Overall, Sofia maintains a balance of good food and upscale atmosphere, making it a worthwhile option, though some may seek alternatives for a more refined service experience.

Hi guys. I had a great time at Sofia last night. The spaghetti, veal and zeppole was amazing. It was great meeting Kaitlin. She did a great job as a hostess. Very friendly. Jasmine did a perfect job as waitress. Attended to my every need at the table. Great seeing Amy hold down the fort. She leads with a smile and always does a great job. Will definitely be returning soon for dinner. Anthony. View all feedback.
What Paul Di Stasi dislikes about Sofia Restaurant Bar:
I made a reservation for three 50th birthday celebrations at Sofia. However, three weeks later, and just a week before our reservation, I received a voicemail informing me that it was canceled due to renovations. This is completely unacceptable, as I now have to scramble to find another place for the six of us, which will dampen the excitement and anticipation of our milestone celebrations. Please rectify this, Sofia... View all feedback.

Came here again for anniversary dinner with my husband. Been here a long time ago with a friend to dine in the dining area, but this time in the lounge area so we could sit side by side. Definitely a vibe. Our server was Neha and she was great. Attentive without being too much. Food was excellent. Polpo was so tender and juicy. The ricotta-stuffed zucchini flowers were so perfectly crunchy and rich with a hint of spice. My husband loved the Tonno, the figs with the Burrata were a nice touch. For mains, we had the Spigola (crispy sea bass and Porterhouse. The seabass was really good and cooked perfectly, but simple in terms of flavour. If you want big flavours, it’s not for you. The Porterhouse was good, but unfortunately overcooked. We asked for medium rare, but it was a bit unevenly cooked throughout, more like medium/medium-well to be honest. Still good, but could be better, especially for the price point. Not the best. Size of the sea bass and porterhouse were perfect for sharing. We ordered all 3 sides (broccolini, mushrooms and potatoes . While all three were delicious, we were so stuffed. One was enough. Definitely order the potatoes!! So addictive. The other two were great, standard sides. Highlight for me were the cocktails!! Wow! Tried the Orangina and Toz Collins, so refreshing and balanced. I would come back just for drinks and the potatoes on the side. We were in food coma but still opted to share the Tiramisu and were surprised with a Happy Anniversary greeting on the plate. What a simple yet nice touch : Music gets quite loud the later it gets, but at least it’s good music and beats. I would recommend Sofia for special occasions. It’s a splurge, but you wouldn’t be disappointed. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Our server Peter was such a delight. Great experience and the veal Milanese was chefs kiss. I also really enjoyed the burrata as well. The mocktail was also really refreshing. Can't wait to come back and try the Lamb Chop! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Sofia is a beautiful upscale Italian restaurant tucked away in Yorkville, offering a perfect mix of refined dining and artistic flair. The space is stunning, chic interiors, velvet seating, and art from Warhol and Banksy on the walls. The menu features elevated Italian classics like lobster fettuccine, wood-fired meats, and fresh seafood, all prepared with seasonal ingredients. Cocktails are creative, the wine list is impressive, and the service is polished yet warm. It’s a bit of a splurge, but totally worth it for a special night out or a stylish weekend brunch. Don’t miss the patio in the summer, it’s one of the best in the area. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Both my partner and I have experience in the restaurant industry, so we tried to remain patient and understanding. However, after more than an hour of waiting, we couldn’t tolerate sitting there any longer. I called over a manager and calmly explained what had happened during our visit. She promptly brought out our food with a sincere apology, took care of our bill due to the poor service, and was truly the saving grace of our experience. The food we did receive was just above average. In our opinion, it certainly wasn’t worth the long wait or the price we paid. While you are paying for the Yorkville location, I’ve had much better Italian food elsewhere. As Italians ourselves, we had high hopes given the recommendations, reviews, and price point, but it felt very overhyped. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful, but be warned that the music is excessively loud, making it difficult to hear the person sitting across from you. The choice of music also didn’t seem to fit the ambiance, as it leaned toward techno/club music in an otherwise elegant setting, which felt out of place. Overall, we're left wondering if our negative experience with our particular server skewed our perception of the restaurant or if it truly does not live up to the hype. That being said, we’re not opposed to giving it another try in the future. Hopefully, I can write a more positive review next time.
One of my favorite restaurants in Yorkville! The food is outstanding, and the service is excellent. We celebrated our team’s Christmas dinner here, and everyone loved it.

Been there twice now, and this restaurant commands a level of elegance that is very unique. You don't feel out of place coming here off the street but the menu is definitely on the higher end price-wise. The staff is very cordial and professional. Though I have not paid for my meal both times that I've been here I can say that the presentation of the plates is very well done, this would be a great place for a pre-wedding party z
