This restaurant was recommended by the front desk person at our hotel. We made reservations at another restaurant we always go to on our way to or from LA when we take Hwy 101. It was a really great restaurant with an old western feel but really nice. Service was excellent and food exceptional. I would've given this restaurant an overall 5 but it took over an hour (1.25 hours) to to cook the double pork chop. And eve... View all feedback.
What MangiaB doesn't like about Far Western Tavern:
Great food, but extremely slow service. Went at 7:00 PM on a Friday night with reservations for a party of 6. Took 1 hour 45 minutes to get our main dish. Great ambience and food was delicious and cooked to our liking. Great variety of menu. Our party had lobster, halibut and various steaks. View all feedback.

And even though it said could take up to 45 minutes which we totally understood but we arrived at 5:15 when the restaurant just opened and not many guests in the restaurant. I would still highly recommend anyone near Santa Maria to experience Far Western Tavern (actually in Orcutt just outside of Santa Maria) it's worth the visit.
We visited the Far Western Tavern on a Saturday evening in April. The place was bustling with diners. The ambience was nice old time western look. We started out with cocktails the special Manhattan and an old fashioned. Both were delicious. My husband and I shared the surf turf, steak and lobster dish, which included a shrimp cocktail appetizer and salad. Everything was more than enough to share. The steak and lobster were cooked perfectly. The lobster was melt in your mouth. The steak was tender and juicy. The only downside was the wait for the main dish, which took a while, but was well worth it. Service was very good in general. All servers seemed to work as a team. We'd definitely come back here again.
Found this cute excentric western restaurant on yelp. Very pleased with our choice. We were in Santa Maria wine tasting and wanted a good steak dinner and found a great little gem. Food was very good, well seasoned and flavor spot on. I gave it 4 stars only because the service could have been a little More attention to refilling water or offering another cocktail. But overall would come back.
Stopped by for dinner; our server was excellent (should have taken down her name), ordered the 14oz with double-baked potato (highly recommended; best ever). The steak was ordered 'medium rare ', however, it was a bit overcooked. We will 100% be returning.
