This is the best Chinese food in OKC. I haven 't tried any of the Fuzhonese/ American Chinese dishes, but the Szechuan dishes are amazing, I highly recommend the dry shredded beef with Chinese peppers and the Szechuan String Beans. View all feedback.
What Jonathan G doesn't like about Szechuan Story Bā Yú Rén Jiā:
It didn't taste too sugary and it seemed fairly fresh. But it really was pretty boring in my opinion. I added quite a bit of salt to it and that helped. But there just wasn't much flavor. Also, some of the dishes are labeled spicy and they were really not (though this is relative. we come from Houston and spicy there means you might die... ; This might be how authentic Szechuan Chinese food should taste, it just wasn... I went here with my wife after seeing a show at the Civic Center. We arrived after 5:00 pm on Saturday. There was only party in the dining room already, so we were seated immediately. The dining room is cozy with just a few decorations on the walls. As you sit, you notice this restaurant 's attention to detail including the blue and white vessels at the table that are used for soy sauce, dumpling sauce , and hot chili oil.We started off with the oxtail and tripe appetizer. Served at just below room temperature, it brought back happy memories of a similar dish at Szechuan Bistro. American palates don 't often associate chewy and spicy; that 's what makes this dish so refreshing.I ordered the black pepper fish fillet with eggplant, while my wife ordered the salt and pepper frog. Our dishes came out about 15 minutes after we ordered; this met our expectations for speed of service. As usual, the mounds of food in front of us were large. That 's what happens when they are meant to be shared in a group of 4+ people. I indulged myself in bite after bite of silky smooth eggplant and what tasted like catfish. It was seasoned with finely ground black pepper. I was hoping for szechuan peppercorns, but apparently, those don 't come with this dish. I added soy sauce, and that brought the dish up another level with respect to its flavor. I only needed a few bites of rice since the eggplant and fish was plenty to eat on its own.My wife enjoyed the salt and pepper frog. I tried a piece of frog along the way. We were grateful to our server for warning us of the bones in the frog pieces. Having to slow down was fine for us as it gave us more time to enjoy each other 's company. The food was excellent, service was attentive, and the prices were average for the food quality and for the Asian District. We would like to return and sample more of their expansive menu.
One of the best Chinese places. Period. The garlic pork and chicken, the dry rub chicken, the sizzling beef, dumplings, crab Rangoon and everything else is wonderful. The service is great and the place is cute and clean. Absolutely worth a try!
