Had a private party for a 60th birthday recently. The management and servers were very good to us. The room and taco buffet was perfect for our crowd. I highly recommend them for a casual celebration for around 50. View all feedback.
What Erika H doesn't like about Mama Roja:
Never resolved anything nor followed up with anything (despite saying they would it was just for public display, not genuine) and I still have flashbacks to the wicked food (made me and my significant other ill by the time we got home). Needless to say I will not be back, I do not recommend and don't let the food pics fool you it isn't worth the sickness. Stay away. Only have 1 star bc I had to. View all feedback.
It had been right years since I dined at this restaurant, now I can see why. The location was the reason I choose this place. My family was visiting for the first time and they decided on Mexican and so I decided why not have a view with dinner. That was the highlight of the meal. Service was medicore at best. The setup was terrible! A bowl of broken chips which were barely enough to dip was not a good way to start out! I think the server would have noticed that it was the bottom remnants that were in the bowl. She quickly replaced with a fresh bowl. Luckily the group wasn't hungry! I ordered the ceviche for my entree! It was edible but barely, very overseasoned with salt. The others ordered ala carte and we left shortly after the meal. Like I said the view was impressive just wished the meal was the same.
Always a great experience! Can't be the lake Hefner dining setting either! One of my favorite in the city for Mexican
Absolutely horrible service. Food is Mid at best. Only reason this place is still in business is because it's owned by Hal Smith and it's on the water. Hal Smith's concepts are usually pretty good! Back to the drawing board here for sure! What a waste of a nice water front restaurant location. He needs to redo this one for sure!
We went in yesterday through the restaurant and waited to be seated , we got a patio table and then waited to be served , after 10 minutes my friend went in and asked for some service and was told the patio was closed , by a very rude female server , so she asked for the manager , so we waited another 10 minutes and while we were waiting the next table was served another drink by a server who didn't even look at us! Eventually the manager came out to us to ask how everything was, she was surprised that we we're waiting we told her and she said she was sorry for the inconvenience , no communication between management and staff . Very disappointing especially since I had my German friends here on vacation . I will not be back .
Honestly the food, service and ambiance my entire party raved about. But I want to go ahead and share why I would heavily recommend this place. We held my wife's 40th birthday party there. The servers worked super hard. They made amazing food. However we did have a couple snags along the way. First when I called to plan the party--they told us to have one person if we weren't going to use the party room. We needed 80% of the party there and it caused a snag in our planning. We wanted to make sure we aided and followed policy to a T. Second I brought an ice cream cake in and they indicated they could house it. We had a miscommunication on what a freezer/chiller is between the two parties and didn't explain throughly. The cake was melted when I got it out for my wife. Instead of letting me sulk in my frustrations the GM stepped in and aided me very well. She comped the bill for the cake, gave us all Sapodillas and my wife a Tres Leches cake, and did an amazing job at making sure my wife had an amazing party without any hesitation or fighting. If I could give them 6+ stars I would do it. We have a lot of great memories and everyone was super impressed by the experience. Accidents happen and people are human. But the fact they worked with me when panicked makes me super thankful we went here to celebrate.
