The Crabby Fries were surprisingly generous, loaded with crab meat mixed throughout the crispy fries, making it an ideal dish for sharing. As for the cornbread, it was possibly the best I've ever had—exceedingly buttery, served at the perfect temperature, and it just melted in my mouth. It was so delicious that we ended up ordering two more to take home! Even though the fries and wings were quite filling, I decided to go ahead and order my entrée before finishing the appetizers. I selected the Hideaway Sampler with a side of collard greens and Brussels sprouts, but keep in mind that the Brussels sprouts come at an extra charge of $2. I wasn't aware of that, but I would have still added them to my order. The ribs were decent, but nothing spectacular, while the regular smoked wings were good—though I prefer the Old Bay wings. The brisket was fantastic—tender and just right. The pulled pork was decent, though it really shines once you add some sauce. Overall, my experience here was excellent! I will undoubtedly be coming back. Kudos to the team, and Katy deserves a raise! During our visit, I experienced a cramp at the table, and she noticed my discomfort. She checked on me to ensure I was okay while my wife was in the bathroom, making sure I was all right before she left. That is truly top-notch service. Thank you once again!
Everything was incredible! The service was outstanding. Jason gave us excellent recommendations! The atmosphere at 6 PM was just right. We happened upon this lively spot, and we're so happy we did! I tried the Bourbon pecan pie and the blue burger, both of which were delicious! We will definitely be coming back!
This is precisely what I was hoping to find in a local barbecue place, and it has swiftly become my favorite in the DMV area! Our server was outstanding and brought so much positive energy to our experience. The food was exceptional, with each dish cooked to perfection. The homemade desserts were delightful, too. I strongly recommend trying the hideaway sampler! The brisket is simply incredible.
Tuesday 6/25/2024 I originally heard about this spot from a Reddit that was talking about the best places in Maryland so I was quite intrigued and interested in visiting this spot. I made an order through toast app and got: smoked fried chicken with Brussel sprouts and hush puppies $24, fatty melt with hideaway fries $19, and the hideaway sampler with baked beans and Mac cheese $28. I also got a 2 scoop cup of cookies n cream ice cream (from inside) for $7. -The smoked fried chicken was the best item I had. It was juicy, flavorful, and very good. -The Brussel sprouts were disappointing to me mainly due to how many different flavors you tasted and that didn't work out well especially with the cottage cheese so I'd give it a 5/10. -The hush puppies were pretty decent and it actually tasted better without the honey butter. -The fatty melt is a very unique and solid creation that has grilled cheese sandwiches as the buns for the burger. -the hideaway fries were alright but didn't really do anything for me. -the hideaway sampler comes with a smaller serving of brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and 2 wings so that you can sample everything you get. All the meats were moist and extremely tender. *the pork was alright but was significantly better with the sauces. *the brisket was very tender and fell apart easily but it could've been better with some more flavor seasonings. *the wings were decent but I expected them to be a bit better. *the ribs were my favorite of the 4: they were tender ,flavorful, and really good with the sauces. -the baked beans were a solid 7/10. -the Mac n cheese was the WORST: it lacked seasoning and flavor. -the cookies n cream ice cream was good. -the sauces were solid but my favorites were the blackberry chipotle and the Carolina. Overall, the hideaway didn't quite meet the high expectations I had but it was still a good bbq experience that I would be open to returning to and recommending.
I still like this place, maybe for sentimental reasons. I remember coming here with my parents back in the 80's/90's when it was called Jim's Hideaway and they served steamed crabs. They really should do that again. Oh but the parking ... It still has that hole in the wall vibe. Went in on a Sunday craving chicken wings. I really like theirs because I can order them plain with sauce on the side. My chicken sandwich was tasty as well. Our service was quick, but noticed that other tables had more of a wait for food.
