This is one of my favorite restaurants in Oaxaca. I have been here several times for lunch. We order Garnacheros Pollo and something else. I like everything that I have tried at this restaurant, but my favorite dish is the chicken and garnachas. I have never been to Istmo, but this gives me a little taste without all of the heat :) View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Xuncu Choco:
We arrived and they said the chef would be back in 30mins. that turned in to 45. Americano tasted like water. Got a sandwich which was mediocre. Also had some kind of mole pastry with chicken which had gristle in it, and tasted like it was a day old. The sauce had grit in it too. Couldn't finish it. I think this place is new, they have a lot of room for improvement. View all feedback.
Xunco Choco was a great find serving up some delicious Oaxacan dishes. We ordered the pescaó con candó (fried fish in sauce) and relleno de puerco (pork in sauce) which were both fantastic. It was upscale restaurant quality in taste and presentation at a reasonable...price.
We ordered the pork quesadillas, freshly fried, topped with saurkraut and cheese incredible!! The ttalyuda with chicken was just ok maybe we should have ordered it with pork instead. Very kind service and very affordable. Skip the espresso here, it's weak.
There were some good flavors in my meal but overall I was deeply disappointed. My soup was abundant in quantity but not so much in quality of taste. My main course was tasty enough but there was much more bone and fat on the meat...that was brought to me than edible meat. There may be some wonderful dishes served in Xuncu Choco but mine wasn't. The waiter was nice and attentive.
Affordable Vegetarian menu. I had the Flor de Calabasa and the Mushroom Quesadillas. Both of them were delicious and the beer went well with everything. The group of women I was with all enjoyed our food.
I went here around noon, so it wasn't exactly breakfast, but it was my first meal of the day. I got tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken and doused in mole negro. Absolutely delicious and very filling--great value. It comes with a bread and salsa appetizer...and your choice of fresh OJ or coffee. On top of all of that, the service is friendly and efficient, and the restaurant's design is quirky and welcoming. I went alone and was comfortable, but it would also be good for any casual gathering between friends or family.
