A most wonderful experience. Lunch was a delicious 6 course meal plus dessert. There was an optional inventiive pairing of drinks with every course (alcoholic) The room was calming and beautiful with cactus and succulents and seating was spaciously arranged. Rooster and chickens roam the backyard. Service was spectacular and the wait staff perfectly described each dish. Any more courses would have been too much. A perfect afternoon.

The food was delicious but sometimes the description of the courses was a bit precious. The flavours of the courses did not flow that well. Having said that the complex flavours and interesting ingredients place the food at a high level in a city that has an outstanding newfood culture.

Criollo was an amazing experience, and not what I expected at all. I was so impressed to find out that they do new menus every day based off of what’s available in the markets. I was disappointed that I couldn’t go to Pujol in Mexico City however, when I found out the chef that created that restaurant created Criollo I was pleasantly surprised, and so thankful that I booked this place. It’s one of the most memorable dinners I had in Oaxaca
