My partner and I visited our usual dinner spot tonight, only to find out that they will be ditching their BBQ menu and becoming just another pub in the coming week. It was disappointing to hear that their magnificent and expensive smoker will be sent to another location, leaving Oakville without good smoked meat once again since Val Belcher closed a few years ago. Despite this, the brisket and ribs we ordered were st... View all feedback.
What Lucienne Koelpin doesn't like about Shakers Smokehouse:
I had a full rack of ribs. It was very lightly sauce and a bit salty. I like my ribs with a sweeter sauce and some char. The sauce was a bit tangy and on the pale side. The ribs were not meaty . They were not dry but defiantly not juicy. I have had better View all feedback.
Great bbq in Oakville. I go once a month. Everyone I take there loves it to. Great bartenders also. They do a great bbq turkey for American thanksgiving.
Have had many good meals from here.... today was not one of them. Fish had way too much batter on it , cooked on the outside, definitely not on the inside.
You can tell from my previous reviews I'm a fan of this joint. The BBQ really is the best in southwestern Ontario, and the service is friendly. Tonight the wife went with the brisket sandwich, sweet potato fries and slaw. The brisket is moist and tasty, generously heaped on a chewy bun. The serving of fries, however, was on the skimpy side (and we paid $1 extra for them), prompting a reorder which was quickly and generously supplied at no extra cost. The slaw was OK, chunky and crunchy but a little too vinegary for my taste. I had the slaw, but also the beans and 1/2 rack of ribs. I love the beans here - really smoky and plump. Of course, the ribs did not disappoint in their succulence, juiciness and true southwest smoky flavour, with just the right measure of charring. (If you like heat like I do, assk for tabasco instead of using the house hot sauce, which it ain't.) It's why we keep coming back here. With a pint of Creemore, a 9 oz. glass of house red, $66 before tip.
We have eaten here twice in last few months with friends (50-65 yrs old) and in total we experienced 12 people having dinner here and everyone loved their meal! King's Arms has been our favourite pub for years but the food at Shakers is just as good if not better! They have a very unique selection of side dish choices that (besides the common items) they offer: delicious brown beans, sumptuous large bowl of clam chowder and yummy cornbread. Beer was available in pitchers. Service was excellent. Darts and pool are available. Lots of flat screens displaying a large variety of sports events in progress. When we left manager gave us a big wave of thanks.Hey Oakville - strongly recommend you give this friendly sports bar a try and you won't be disappointed! Free ample parking! Cheers!
What a disappointment... I read their site and thought I scored with a local option - wrong. The seasoning has some similarities to southern rub flavour but the end product quality is poor. When I'm in the south, its all about BBQ joints we can find. I've enjoyed southern ribs from some of the best, most award places. Clearly the dream has died at shakers.
