Lovely, from start to finish, as usual! Our server, Kate, was excellent and polished. Our dinners were carefully prepared, delicious and beautifully served unlike certain other so-called “French” restaurants we've encountered this year in Chicago. View all feedback.
What AnnG doesn't like about Hemmingway's Bistro:
A charming little dining room. The bread was excellent. Our server was very nice. Ordered a dessert that took 35 minutes to prepare when we ordered our meals, so it would come directly after our entrees, as we were going to a play after dinner. We let our server know that. Salad wasn't very flavorful. We both had fish entrees. Good, but not exceptional. Once our entrees were cleared away, our server told us dessert w... View all feedback.
Axel great server, perfect martini w blue cheese olives. Lobster salad very good as well as my wife's salmon nicoise salad. Would not order crab cake again, not jumbo lump or even lump, probably canned crab and very mushy.
This is a very old restaurant, dated, physically needs an overall renovation. The staff was wonderful. It appears as a very French influenced American menu. We both enjoyed two glasses of champagne, our entrées and a baked brie appetizer. It's on the pricey side.

Loved the Restaurant. The Hostess was great. The Waiter was Superb. Some of the Food was not as Excellent as I had hoped. Escargot needed more of a Buttery Garlic Sauce. Without that, the taste was blah. The Soup du Jour was marginal, without flavor. The Crab Cake was okay. I ordered the Whitefish, which was apparently the most popular on the Menu to order. It was a 10 out-of 10... EXCELLENT.
Always a good experience. The food at Hemmingway's is comprised of reliable French bistro from a traditional standpoint. Trout Amandine is impeccably served, the Walleye special was fresh and lively, the Scallops were appropriately sumptuous, and the Steak Frites were served with popularly delicious frites! The bar has plenty of good options from wine to spirits, and the dessert menu is stocked with suitable liqueurs, as well as desserts. We arrived at 7:00, not realizing the restaurant closes at 8:30pm. We were all surprised to note this strange time to close! It would be great if it was 9:00 instead. : Our waiter was helpful and friendly throughout the process, but the wait staff clearing our table seemed a little short with us. In retrospect, it was perhaps because we headed into closing time. Other than that small snag, we had a fun time with family there. We will return again, as we have many times.
