What T G doesn't like about Oak Harbor Cafe Lounge:
Good breakfast. A Little greasy, but the good kinda greasy spoon sorta place. Great sausage and gravy! Decent amount of food too. Looking forward to trying their grinders soon; View all feedback.
- The first thing that struck me was the loud music they played, which seemed aimed at a different crowd than the one present. It felt a bit odd, but I suppose that's their choice. - The service was friendly, but the drinks took a long time to arrive. It felt like we waited quite a while for them to be made. - The price of $25 for two small Long Island Iced Teas in a small town felt quite excessive. Also, like many places these days, they made it complicated to tip appropriately. Why is the minimum tip suggested at $5 for just those two drinks? The tipping culture has gotten a bit out of hand. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience. The staff was pleasant, and it wasn't overly crowded. I think I might come back again.
We started by ordering an appetizer and drinks, but she didn’t take our main order until our appetizer had arrived, which was a bit odd. Later, when our food came, she poured drink refills from a pitcher, but one member of our group was left waiting for a refill. After more than 5 minutes, during which she was just standing around, I had to go to the bar to request a refill for the missing drink, and the other server kindly helped me. We also had to wait quite a while for our check, which turned out to be incorrect because the kids’ meals were not deducted, despite being part of the promotion. Additionally, when paying by card, I found it uncomfortable that they made me input my PIN and tip amount while standing right next to me the whole time. It was surprising that, although she wasn’t a bad server, the owner often ignored customers for long stretches, didn’t seem knowledgeable about the menu, and ultimately made us feel overlooked even when the restaurant was quiet.
The breakfast here is excellent! It’s a bit greasy, but in that enjoyable way you’d expect from a classic greasy spoon. The sausage and gravy are fantastic! You also get a good portion of food. I can’t wait to try their grinders next!
However, I was disappointed to find no utensils to eat the home fries or to add sour cream to my burrito. I managed to find a makeshift fork to eat the home fries, which were delicious—perfectly crispy and soft, with just the right amount of salt. Yum! The burrito, on the other hand, was made with hamburger meat instead of sausage, which was a bit disappointing. But the next day, I tried the leftovers and it was fantastic! The place seems to be confused about whether it’s a bar or a restaurant, at least by 9 AM. Overall, the food was good, but the atmosphere felt a bit off with the pool table and the staff coming and going. Several customers opted to sit outside on a nice day instead of the dining room. I might come back, but I’ll definitely be more specific about my order to ensure I get sausage and utensils, as I wouldn’t want to eat there unless I could sit outside. I was delighted by the friendly and accommodating service, along with the fantastic food. I really enjoy grinders and would definitely return for another one. They also offer a pet-friendly outdoor seating area, which is perfect for warm days when I'm out for a walk with my furry companions.
