I gave this restaurant a second chance this year. When they first merged I thought they had lost their good food and service was mediocre. However, we came back and it was great. The food was back on par. Loved sitting on the patio and enjoyed the food and the fantastic happy hour on the wine! Half off top wines! Made the visit even better. Our server Tyler was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and always right there. Sh... View all feedback.
What John Alhelm doesn't like about La Barra - Oakbrook:
The restaurant wasn't crazy busy. There were a few empty tables in the dining room we sat in. The food came out sporadically. We had a party of 6, and two of the meals came out first, then 15 minutes later, three more came out, and then 15 minutes later, the last meal and a salad we ordered for the table came out and the last meal came out cold we had to send it back. La Barra, you are turning it aroundKelly, the weekend bartender, is invaluable.
Being a LABRIOLA LOYALIST, I had high hopes Sadly, we were not impressedWe showed up with 5pm reservations with our toddler and were seated quickly.
La Marea was a big surprise. We visit the area occasionally and the restaurants are fine. La Marea comes from Westchester where we have many to choose from and it definitely falls into that category. The food was outstanding and the place was very welcoming and comfortable. Can't say enough well. All you have to do is try it yourself.
Excellent food. The mozzarella and tomato salad was the best I've ever had. Shrimp and scallops over polenta were a wonderful and unique mix of flavors. The menu had a wide variety and the service was wonderful
I have visited this restaurant a few times before, but this last visit left me a bit disappointed. The braesola starter, which I usually enjoy, lacked the flavorful mushrooms that it usually comes with. The pasta was overly salty and dry, and the fried calamari and prawns were also too salty. Despite this, the quality of ingredients used in the dishes was still excellent. In their defense, we visited right after a holiday weekend, so perhaps the experience was not typical. Despite this disappointing visit, we are willing to give the restaurant another chance in the hopes that this was just an outlier.
