there were so many vegan options on the menu and they assured us that everything was cooked separately from the meat. we enjoyed the fried brussel sprouts, vegan pot pie, and crab cake (from kichererbsen and vegetables, not imitation meat). there were many other options that I wanted to try, but was full! What Alex Panagiotopoulos doesn't like about The Pawnee House:
The atmosphere was nice, but I think I was bamboozled by the glowing reviews as a non-vegan. Yes, if you are vegan, this place is probably an oasis, but I didn't think the food lined up with the prices. I would definitely get a drink here though. Pawnee House undertakes to have at least 30% of its menu plant. The food is legitimate DELICIOUS for vegans and non-vegans alike. The vegan crab cake is a must, like anything else.
Went here for brunch and got the french toast. There aren't many places on MV with vegan options so I was excited about this one! Vegan options are clearly labeled and there's plenty of them. The french toast was delicious!
Martha’s Vineyard seems to have very few vegan options at the moment so I was happy to find this one. It is super cute and has a fun vibe. It has a fairly short menu, so not too many options, but almost 50% of the menu is vegan, and vegan options are clearly marked. (Watch out for the flat bread, which has honey; you can request that it’s made without honey . The portions are fairly small and the place is quite expensive. The side dishes and starters were the best: fingerling potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and shishito peppers. I also had the polenta, but would not recommend it it’s is swimming in oil. I personally did not like the service, I felt they bothered us too much (three different people asking if we want more wine within a span of less than 10 minutes is too much for me. They also snatched plates away really fast, often without asking, even though we weren’t finished with them. Updated from previous review on 2021 05 22
Just WOW. This place completely blew us away. The cute romantic ambiance is great for an evening dinner for a couple, or friends. The service is exceptional. The drinks were perfect. And the food absolutely delicious. The edamame dumplings, the whipped feta, the salmon wellington, and gruyere cheese/ asparagus are to die for. Alex was an awesome host. Truly recommend. Food: 5
DELICIOUS! We ate dinner here on 9/7/23, 2 days before leaving the Vineyard, and I definitely wish we had done so sooner because the food was delicious and I wanted a chance to explore their menu further. With limited seating, and offering dinner service only (brunch Sundays), it's hard to get a reservation. Plan ahead. Even though the interior seems ordinary when peeking through the windows during the day, it becomes magical after dark. We shared the Red Beans Rice Bowl w/ Cajun Andouille Sausage, Toasted Sesame Asparagus, and Spicy Collard Greens. Excellent, all! We did not order anything (this time) from the cocktail menu, but it was extensive and inventive. With any luck, the wife/husband team behind this gem will be able to expand into a larger space. See you next summer for sure!
