Russian cuisint isn't high on my list of... read more I went to Saphir with a group of friends on a Thursday night and was very pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious! Russian cuisint isn't high on my list of foods that I crave but that may change now. The borscht was excellent; flavored well and with plenty of tasty veggies and meat. The Okroshka, a cold summer vegetable soup with buttermilk and dill, was truly outstanding and like nothing I've ever had before. I immediately went home and looked up recipes to try and make this at home. The pelmeni are homemade and (naturally) delicious. There was a dish in a 'skovorodka' with meat and veggies that was out of this world. It's a *lot* of food, though, so only order it if you don't also get a soup. Although I don't share Russians' love of mayonnaise, the beet, pickle, potato, and egg salad topped with it was surprisingly tasty -- don't let American sensibilities keep you from trying this; order one for the table and pass it around.The place is spotlessly clean, and Victor our waiter was vey attentive. The restaurant takes only cash, so don't try and pay with card; but I ended up with a soup, an entrée and a drink for less than 15 euro. I will definitely be back.
