Description

Located near Rock City, this student-friendly venue offers a recommended American Pale Ale and a great vibe. Despite heavy metal music not fitting the scene, the New Year Goth night was a hit with a fantastic venue. Spanky Van Dykes is often praised for its lovely staff and great food, though some criticize its transformation into a dingy rock bar. With reasonably priced drinks, live bands, and a chilled atmosphere, this pub is a cool spot for music lovers. The best version of this place yet, it offers delicious burgers, a good beer selection, and a fun student-heavy atmosphere.

The bar was nice, but the service was extremely bad. I will not be returning as it ruined my weekend getaway. The music was also not enjoyable.

We attended the New Year Goth night at this restaurant. It was a fantastic evening and the venue is fantastic. The drink options may not be as extensive as other pubs/bars in the area, lacking real ales, but overall it is a good spot for a night out!

After promoting a pre-show event for Gary Numan's concert in Nottingham, I decided to check it out. It's always fun when a venue is filled with fans of the same artist. I arrived before the show, but the atmosphere didn't really pick up until after we all saw the main act. After the concert ended early on a Friday night, I headed back to the venue around 10:15 pm. It took a long time to get a drink, and the only thing that caught my eye was the bartender in leopard print leggings. When I finally got served, I was disappointed to learn they only had Fosters lager, so I switched to a double JD and coke, which was reasonably priced. However, they later started selling Carlsberg in cans at the same price as a pint, which didn't sit right with me. If you're in charge of this establishment, I recommend training your staff to focus on customer service and improve your drink selection, especially on busy weekends like Fridays. I'll give you another chance, but with so many other pubs nearby, you should step up your game.

Albert’s. What can I say. Spanky Van Dykes was such a well run place with lovely staff and great food. No idea who thought it would be great to take one of the best student bars in town and turn it into some dingy wannabe rock bar. Nonetheless the food is shocking the beer is not loved and looked after and it seems the ‘gentleman’ who appears to own the place couldn’t really care for his clientele or staff as on more than one occasion he has been seen slobbing about on the terrible diner style seats while the staff sweat it out running up and down the long bar. We will leave the horror stories of staff being shouted at and belittled and refused their own pay for another day. All in all this establishment should probably be closed down after seeing the state of the front of house I’d be horrified to know what back of house looks like. Someone call ofcom!!!

Huge pub downstairs bar, upstairs area for live bands. Drinks reasonably priced Charged us £10 pound each for entry to watch live bands play. Given wristband to wear so could come and go as pleased. Seems a more chilled pub for a rock bar, had bar upstairs but bar not in use so had to walk downstairs everytime we wanted a drink. A good place to go would recommend .
