What Henry Cox doesn't like about Jurnet's:
The weirdest, most surreal, and trippiest place I've ever been. The venue is part Hogwarts, part Camelot and part 80's village hall. People queue, single file, to the bar for a drink, which is served by a lovely couple that look like they're working a village fete. Once you've ordered the drink you ponder whether to rejoin the queue for another 45mins or just be sober for the night. On the night that I went there was... View all feedback.
In an undercroft, away from the main nightlife of the city, is a charming and inviting venue for events as well as bands and musical acts. Feeling as if you fell through a Rome portal, you are in a different world of think stonewalls, candles hanging from the ceiling, ciarsvif arms on the wall and various nooks to drink a quiet pint or enjoy other's company. Membership is available for a very modest charge and worth being part of a forgotten watering hole with it's variety of entertainment. A collection is made for the acts, as they are not paid, otherwise and all shows are recorded so refrain from chatting throughout the performances, as stern looks from music lovers will follow you. You will feel as though you are in the lower depths of a castle awaiting a royal arrival. A non-music area is available as well for the art of conversion and the neighbour's ginger cat may make a visit, for warmth. A hidden gem in this fine city, known to only a few, but needing the patronage of many...
One of the best kept secrets in Norwich. Very atmospheric setting and staff are very friendly, good selection of drinks too. Friday nights are great if you want to discover local music artists.
Really nice pub , found it whilst visiting the comedy crypt, and absolutely loved it , am into anything a bit quirky and different so this didn't disappoint , a hidden gem.
We had our engagement party here on a Saturday afternoon. The venue was very helpful and allowed us to bring our own food and music system. Teas and coffees of all varieties and the cash only bar was very cheap and cheerful. All in all a very charming hidden gem in the centre of Norwich within Wensum Lodge just of Kings Street.
This wonderful quirky bar in a 12th century undercroft is not to be missed, although it is only open during times due to being a part of Wensum Lodge Adult learning centre. It hosts the Friday night Norwich Music House acoustic(ish) sessions and the performers have told me on many occasions that this is the best audience in the city......... these people really do appreciate and enjoy their music. However, there are other wonderful things going on in Jurnets bar. With Wednesday evenings revolving around the Storytelling on the first weds of the month, and local music newcomers on the last Wednesday of the month, with the other two Wednesdays often being filled with poetry, play reading or comedy nights. Thursdays are drop-in and jam nights and all musicians are encouraged to come along and join in. On the third Saturday of the month it is the Cave In a 60 ' 70 's funk soul disco , so dress in best vintage clothing and come down for that special evening in a unique setting. All are of these are free entry but voluntary contributions added to the pint pot passed around are always welcomed. The bar is well appointed, with beers, wines spirits cider and soft drinks inc tea coffee, hit chocolate and fruit/herbal teas, but bar snacks are rather limited, but this made up by the low social club/SU prices.
