Café Rouge - Norwich

I went for lunch using a voucher, and I found the food to be quite nice. However, it did lack a certain warmth and attention in the service.

As always, the food was delightful, the service was excellent, and I didn’t feel rushed at all.

I recently stopped by a café hoping to indulge in a piece of red velvet cake that I had two years ago, but unfortunately, they didn't have any. In the end, I settled for a latte and a slice of lemon tart, both of which were very enjoyable. My only complaint would be that the prices are a bit high for what you get. The waitress was incredibly helpful in making my selection, and the atmosphere was delightful, with soothing music that was a pleasure to listen to.

Afternoon tea. No good choice. Only two sandwich fillings offered, and we both had to have the same, could not have each of the two types. Four slices of cake, two, not bad, but not the best. Tea pots served before eating, so went cold through the time we had finished eating, and offered no tip after eating. Overpriced at 25 pounds.

Very disappointing, considering this is not the first visit of ours to this usually very good restaurant. Service was very slow, but ultimately friendly when we it arrived to take our order. Portion size was terrible, very small. My partner ordered mussels and when her food arrived, there were 10 in the dish (we counted). She was starving after eating her main, and it only came with a small portion of fries on the side. Again, service did not remove our empty plates for an unacceptable time. We paid the bill, left no tip and went to a different restaurant for dessert. This would have been a one star review but we have been before and it's been excellent, so do still consider it. It hasn't put us off, but we won't order mussels again.
