Paxtons Fish And Chip - Northumberland

While working in Hexham, a colleague and I decided to have dinner at this restaurant. Upon entering, the atmosphere was pleasant and clean. We placed our order and while waiting, we asked the polite young lady at the counter for clarification on some menu items, as we were unfamiliar with the area. However, we were shocked when a woman from the back suddenly started shouting at us, accusing us of being rude. It seemed like we had interrupted her personal time, as she did not appear clean. The service from the young girl was excellent, but the attitude from the chef was terrible. Overall, the experience was disappointing due to the chef's unprofessional behavior.

We ordered two chip sandwiches with curry sauce, one small order of fries with curry, and two cans of soda, which came to a total of £19.20. I thought this was quite expensive, but the food was tasty. However, it was not worth nearly twenty pounds. Additionally, the woman who served us was unfriendly. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

I recently visited a restaurant in Northumberland that offers fish directly from the shelf, ready to be sold. Many restaurants nowadays cook to order, which in my opinion, is no longer considered fast food. However, this place had the best quality fish I have ever had in Northumberland. I wasn't a fan of the peas, but I believe that may be a regional preference as they were quite bland. The staff were also very friendly and had a true Northumbrian charm. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant again.

Always great food and service from Paxtons staff. I believe I am the person the other reviewer (Jan 2022) mentions as I did make small talk at the door with 1 of the staff about our children returning to school following covid whilst my food was being prepared. The shop still operates on a door service so no one is allowed in yet so something doesn't add up in the review, perhaps its more personal. However I've shopped here many times over the 20+ years living in lovely Hexham. Top staff, top service and top food.

This has to be be the worst experience ever ! i will never give this bunch of abusive rude and prejudice staff any business ever again ! A paying customer left to feel out in the cold and discriminated against as a school friend was more important, even ignorant enough to not wear a mask inside left feeling bullied as i stood up for myself ! awful ! Hexham is supposed to be a happy place to live , i think not ! fuming right now, will never eat there again , rather starve to death than spend any money in this dive ever again ! SHOCKING ! food wad binned and went to a rival business opposite the County Pub that were polite and efficient and food was amazing .
