they must make sure they order at the Takeaway counter on the back of the pub. you can't take the food, but you can eat and beer outside and buy drinks from the pub. I can't believe that I've never eaten here and the price is so reasonable! fixed photos and a menu! enjoy! View all feedback.
What Cassilero doesn't like about The Briar Dene:
I wonder if this place has been taken over. New menu uninspiring. Food very bad. Service like a lot of places don’t have experienced well trained staff. All interesting old menu options gone. View all feedback.

Very satisfied with my first visit here. a family dinner unites in a very clean, fresh environment. the staff was very friendly helpful. hot sandwiches with engraving chips were not torn down in any time. a place I return to.
I've been here after the last lockdown and it was nice so despite the outdoor seating regulations I thought I would do the same again. Booked through the app very easy which I downloaded thinking I would need it upon arrival. Even though it was really cold on the day we still visited and the girl allocated us a table under the canopy area which was not sheltered from the sides at all, luckily as it was raining she moved us to under the wooden canopy area which was slightly better. We were told to order drinks and food through the app but it wouldn't load, so after 10 minutes of trying we asked a young girl how to order to be told the app was not working. Had a great pint of Shipyard Ale and after a slight wait our food was brought out and it looked incredible. It was really tasty and hot to start with but obviously it went cold very quickly so we both it as quickly as possible. My only criticism of my lunch the trio of meats, was the beef, it was wafer thin like the kind you get in the chiller fridges in supermarkets, very disappointing. At the end of our meal the waitress and a problem with the card machine and went inside to sort it out after I had tapped my card on it, she did say it had gone through but needed to get a receipt. When I got home I noticed on the receipt I had been charged an extra 1 pound for a face mask which was odd as I didn't request one as I was wearing my own already. So wrap up warm if you are going to visit on a cold day, hat. gloves, scarf, blanket as you will need to as there are no outdoor heaters. We both agreed the food was really good but would only return once the restrictions on inside dining are eased within the next couple of weeks.
Greatly let down by this place on Saturday afternoon 25th. I contacted them on Friday evening to enquire about wether or not I would have to reserve a table for Saturday afternoon, I was told by a female member of staff that i wouldn't need to reserve a table and they didn't take bookings... OMG hahaha what a joke on arrival place was pretty full and the tables that were empty were clearly showing reserve signs on them, bit of a head scratcher that one considering I was told they didn't take bookings??? Never the less I went to the desk asked for a table of 4 for my very hungry family and guess what?? I was asked if I had booked a table , I said no and they told me it was fully booked and there was no table availability at all , what a joke considering I travelled 20 miles to try this place , so I would like to thank the brair dene for completely ruining my 1st never happening meal after the lockdown thanks guys for not not knowing anything about customer service skills. and by the way if you want to eat here make sure you book a table lol
Waited an hour for a very expensive over cooked fish with burnt batter. The young ladies at the front working very hard but management, blinded by his own self importance. Greed comes to mind! If that's all whitley bay has to offer, we won't be back. Adios!
